So I have an o3ds on version 4.2 with gateway (gateway emunand is on version 9.2) My question is, what do I need to do in order to not need to reinstall the exploit every single time I want to play a DS game?
Probably do as the poster above suggested. Menuhax autobooting is way better. Since you have a 9.2 emuNAND you could flash it to sysNAND to update (wait for confirmation that's safe before doing it). To do this you would backup your emuNAND using emuNAND tool, name the backup NAND.bin, but it on your SD card, load the gateway menu and choose restore NAND.So I have an o3ds on version 4.2 with gateway (gateway emunand is on version 9.2) My question is, what do I need to do in order to not need to reinstall the exploit every single time I want to play a DS game?
Is there a way to do it without the any of the "hax" exploits? I don't really feel comfortable using them for some reason.
Also doesn't 9.2+ require a stable internet connection at all times for the exploit to work? I read that somewhere but I could be completely off base.
The only reason to stay on 4.5 would be incompatibility of saves in physical game cartridges (not sure on details, but do some reading. I think relevant only to pokemon?)Before I go ahead with this is there any reason to stay on 4.5?(sysnand)
Also, are there any major differences between CFW? Is some just plain better than others?

Other than that, menuhax is a big leap forward from the DS profile exploit and well worth pursuing. For old 3DS, rxtools is generally recommended but I hear Cakes works too.
Yeah that sounds familiar, probably all he has to do to keep his saves safe is back them up before updating to 9.2.Isn't that what the new Gateway 7.x+ and 7.x- modes are for? I think you're supposed to use those to get the saves with SDF, then you can reapply them properly.

The emunand part is identical between CFWs. Different CFWs have different patches, for example in some you can play DS carts and in others you can't. The emunand is exactly the same though. You could have it so that you boot into rxTools in a different way to Gateway, so if one day you forget your red cart you can still play all the games you installed (just not the ones in the red cart in the Select menu). This might be a stupid question but, how much different is RXtools from Gateway emunand? Would one possibly support newer FW/games faster than the other? I'd hate to not be able to play games because I was using one or the other.
Also heres another question, theres no chance of gateway bricking my 3ds because I'm not using THEIR gateway emunand is there?
use sysupdater to upgrade sysnand to 9.2, ditch the gateway, and install RXTools and Menuhax? then you avoid TWL_FIRM entirely and can play DS games whenever.
If you have a DS flashcart and are on 4.x you won't need the internet at all. Make sure you skip the sections that aren't relevant to you (it contains instructions for every possible combination of circumstances). Is there a way to follow this guide without wifi? all the while making a backup of sysnand 4.5 and updating to 9.2 so I can use homemenuhax?

To update to 9.2, you have to have rxTools working on 4.5 and have the version that has DevMode or PastaMode as an option in the menu. Install sysupdater.cia on your home menu in sysnand. Download the correct update files for your region and console type from 'that' iso site, put them in an 'updates' folder on your SD card, boot into rxtools and choose DevMode or PastaMode (definitely not rxMode), open sysupdater (read the info on the screen carefully to make sure you've done what it says), then choose update.
Note that on 9.0-9.2 you will want wifi to be able to install menuhax (you can get around this by downloading the payload and putting it on the SD card manually). If the reason you wanted to do it without wifi though was because you didn't have an internet browser, once you update to 9.2 you will have one.
