I've heard browser hax is very unstable on my system, which is a 2DS (old)10.5.0.30u and therefore I need to have patience, but I have ADHD so it's hard for me to commit to repetitive activities for a long amount of time. I've got what I think I need already on my sd card, and I have the link bookmarked and everything, but once I hit the orange screen i'm sent back to the home menu with the message "an error has occur. please save your data in any software currently in use, and then restart your system."

I guess I'm trying to verify things I've heard about my system on different platforms to see if I've missed anything.
  • browser hax is very unstable on (old)10.5.0.30u
  • it will work eventually if i have everything on my SD card.
    • i need boot.3dsx in the root, and this in folder "3ds" also in the root.
  • once i finally get it to work i can set up menuhax so i won't have to put up with this shit again.
  • i've heard pressing the home button after 1-2 seconds on the yellow screen may help.
  • i've also heard restarting my browser (deleting cookies/history) after an attempt also helps.
does this sound about right?

You shouldn't be using browserhax. Boot it once, and use it to install Menuhax, this way you'll boot to the Homebrew Launcher when you turn on your console pressing L.
Browserhax is a good initial entrypoint, like ninjhax, after that you should be using menuhax, OoThax or smashhax.

that's what i'm doing; i'm not using browserhax as my go-to entrypoint, i'm just trying to make that initial connection rn and it's taking a long ass time.

You can try manually downloading the payload from Smealum's website, renaming it accordingly to your system version, and putting it on your SD instead of the one you're currently using.

Download the ropbin, your current one will be on the root of your SD card with the following syntax: ropbinpayload_menuhax_XXXXXXXX_old3ds or similar, you must delete your old one and replace it with the new downloaded one, just make sure it's named correctly

EDIT: This will just make sure menuhax will work, for browserhax the only thing besides constantly trying again is to delete your browser's cache and the file webkithax_tmp.bin from your SD. Other than that, it's just luck.

i just loaded my sd to my pc to find that temp file. thanks for letting me know!

i also can't find any such ropbinpayload file, is that because menuhax hasn't been extracted/installed from homebrew yet?

Yep, Menuhax will download it from the web during the first installation, not sure if they already updated to recognize 10.5, if they didn't manually placing the file like I said will work.
