Smealum just doesn't want legal trouble be grateful for all the 3ds stuff he has done!!!!
ikr i love my free open source CALCULATORS :glare:
btw all @smealum did was right the top after yellows8 found the actual exploit, and the ROP leading to that little Shell dubbed Homebrew Launcher , USELESS
Also don't mean to bring up 3ds stuff in this thread but it just had to be said

So true :D

Since Hykem said 5.5.1 is safe, I'm going to update and take one last pass around the eshop this weekend.

I was considering getting a DS game to use as a base for rom injection when the IOSU exploit finally comes out. Is there any specific game that works better for that over the others? Thanks.

I'm still at 3.1.0 and staying there for now, hoping for an EmuNAND that I can update to 5.5.1 and higher (and of course we need an EmuNANDTool to restore previous versions when necessary).

Uh, smea has done a lot more than you probably think he has done, although Yellows8 has definitely done a ton more in terms of straight RE. For one, he started up ctrulib and he's done a ton of work getting that set up, he's found and developed ROP payloads for more than plenty of games purely for the sake of developing a better homebrew community. He even worked on getting a proper region-free solution and a way for people to ROM Hack, and frankly he helped jumpstart the 3DS rom hacking community with that alone, before he made it accessible it was a very, very niche area for people to work in. Plus he also did a nice amount of GPU RE a while back, which probably helped ctrulib and Citra somewhat. I'm not sure why so many people are bagging on him just because he isn't releasing anything for Wii U right now, I have a feeling he might eventually release something for Wii U homebrew, but geez guys, you don't have to bag on his hobby just because he isn't spoon feeding you crap for Wii U.

Using the ds rpx with the last loadiine works fine, no need to have a base game. And if you don't want to use loadiine, you can still spoof and use nnu-patcher to get to eshop and get what you want later.
Many people who were on 5.5.0 ended up updating to 5.5.1 with an eshop visit ^^. So you really risk getting to an update that patches yellows8's exploit whenever you attempt any update or go to eshop.

And please everyone else, stop telling people "it's safe to update", the exact same thing happened with people who were on 5.4.0, now they are regretting not having access the the OSDriver kernel exploit..

it was also stated that updating to 5.5.1 closes off a few entrypoints, but the one hykem is using works until it gets patched by ninty, if ever

The reason why smea gets so much hate isn't because "he isn't spoon feeding us crap for Wii U" but rather because he has literally wiggle the iOSu in front of our faces in way that, to me at least, seems a bit sort of like "look at me, I hacked the Wii U and here's proof of it but y'all aren't getting squat because -insert moral reason that defies logic-". Granted, its his hack and he can eat it for breakfast and not share a single bite, like he has done, but then don't show it off in here or at least that:s how I see it. Regardless, it would be nice if he would put it to good use and find a way to make an emunand and document it.

As much as I respect your opinion, he did ask people to vote if they like him to keep posting stuff about his achievements even if he's not intending a release, or he just keeps it to himself and don't bother us with it, and majority of people voted that he posts stuff ^^'..
It's more fun showing people what you achieved :P, let the man enjoy it, after what he done to the scene (I'm using his tubehax and some stuff on 3ds) he deserves to temporary enjoy that fame if he wants ^^. Releasing will just get people focus on what he released instead of his twitter page ;).

Hi, I'm on 5.3.2.
Is it safe to spoof 5.5.1 for eShop Access (need MK8 DLCs) or should i better wait for emuNAND?
With regard of "The Definitive Guide to Wii U Hacking"

"I don't support doing that since we don't know the consequences of spoofing yet and emuNAND is hopefully just around the corner. If you want to spoof your FW version, there's a great guide for that [here]."

Show his achievement on twitter. That's fine, it's his personal space thus he can do and should do whatever he wants but

It's safe. I have done the exact same thing you wanted to do with satisfactory results

Relax, I believe we're mature/intellegent enough to communicate without filthy laungage :).

I have read hykem's post and I know what he said, in fact I'll just go ahead and quote the part where he mentioned 5.5.1 :
The latest firmware (5.5.1) is vulnerable, just enjoy your console in the meantime and when it's out, it's out.

Now read my post and compare. Hykem is talking about volnurability, even 5.5.0 was volnurable months ago too. I was talking about the dangerous claim "safe to update" and responding to those who want eshop access.
I don't know since how long you've neen looking at the wii u hacking scene, but pretty much exact same thing happens over and over again, people get so tempted to do something, get an eshop game/dlc... and they end up getting their console auto updated when nintendo releases a firmware. Then they spend the rest of the time expressing their frustration in the forums. I won't even go as far as 5.3.2, but only when 5.5.1 came out, many people got their console auto updated just cause they went to eshop that night.
Whoever wants to update to 5.5.1, try access eshop etc... That's your choice, yes we all know the volnurability is there too, yes it is possible to EVENTUALLY hack it WHEN the IOSU exploit comes out, but please "safe to update" is really not a wise claim to make. Unless you really know what you're doing and use offline updating, which in the case of 5.5.1 I no think it's possible.
