With the increasing reports of bricks, better safe than sorry.

I don't understand why people are even trying to downgrade now. It's better to wait for a safer alternative. Piracy, emuNAAD, CFW, etc isn't going anywhere.

It's just the excitement of getting it earlier. I fell for it, and gladly turned out well, but I'm starting to see more reports of bricks. Even I had a soft brick that I could luckily recover.

people are impatient that's why and yeah it's risky ( i got reckless almost bricked my o3ds thanks god i got only a semibrick so i fixed it )

Some people lose even safe mode. We're lucky.

the thing is you can't make a nand dump if you don't have a hardmod. which i knew how to make hardmod

Its 4 wires. Not complicated by any means. Before you jump on any band wagon, either learn to use hard mod or pay someone to install a hard mod. Always better to be safe than sorry.

Is it possible to make a backup of the naad on 9.2 though?

You say that as if anyone can just pick up a soldering iron and do it. I've done soldering, and it's not that easy. Working with components that small on a complex board takes a lot of practice that even I don't have and I have done soldering before.

Heck, @Gadorach had to redo my mod because he found the wires were too long and wasn't getting a good NAND read on my DSi. Even those that have done it still mess up from time to time.

I'm visually impaired just so you all know so I seriously doubt I would be able to do a hardmod with my limited vision. Not everyone can take apart their 3DS.

My soldering iron is way to big for the 3DS, haha.

I thought about buying a new one, but I'm not sure I'd be able to do it.

Downgrading with KTM (if we ever get it, not hating on JustPingo, he's just never delivered before so I'm skeptical) won't be safer per se, the downgrade itself is going to work the same way, his app will just check if all the files are the right ones. It'll simply be more noob-friendly.

Honestly I'd say it's really YMMV. I successfully downgraded two O3DS-style systems (one 2DS and one 3DS) in a row, no hiccups, no issues. But there are definitely people having legit issues so, yeah, if you're really worried be careful.

That said, if you have an O3DS and are worried, be aware that my SO got an O3DS with a broken screen for like, $40 on eBay, and then got a working screen for $10, and was able to switch over the screen easily, and that's how she got hers in the first place. So if you've got $50 or so I wouldn't worry too much.

You don't have to wait for KTM if you know what you're doing (verifying checksums yourself, not failing to choose your pack, etc.)

At this point, KTM won't be more stable. It will just be safe in case you're not. It will also try to fix the kind of mistakes that can happen with sysUpdater, but not a lot really.

Do you mean that there will be the chance that the system will hang just like it does with sysupdater?

And do you have any thoughts on 3DSs that installed the legit CIAs? Some people are having problems making them downgrade.

There are different types of hangs. Some can be fixed automatically (usually the ones with error messages), others can't.

And what legit CIAs?
