Hacking A few questions about the two 3DSes

I want to get my hands on a 9.2 N3DS. First, how difficult would that be in the States, and second, what do you think is the most I should pay for one? When it comes to finding an offer, is it needle-in-a-haystack hard, or just really pricy, or what?

Second, I'd also like to get my hands on a 4.2 O3DS; same questions as above.

Third, I'd also like to know what the best most recent firmware I should be on for my DSi. I know Acekards support up to 1.4.4, but IIRC that's about as hard to get as a 4.x 3DS. How hard would it be to find a DSi for whatever firmware version is best, and again, how much should I pay tops?

N3DS XL not too difficult, but you may have cough up some extra cash or go used. N3DS Impossible. O3DS probably not too hard but once again a firmware that low you may have to fork over little extra. O3DS XL impossible.

o3ds is going to be 9.2 if you buy new (rare exceptions being yo-kai 2ds and the upcoming US mario 3dland XL black friday bundle)
When you get an old3ds XL or reg 9.2-5.0, you can downgrade to 4x using gateway firmware. It's safe and easy and you don't even need a gateway flashcart.

It's very difficult finding a 1.4.4 dsi. Just spend $15 and get an r4ids.cn card.

Finding N3DSXL on <=9.2 isn't that hard if your willing to pay over MSRP for it. The O3DS XL as far as I know never came with 4.5 on it.

Ok on the n3ds xl then, but any o3ds xl is essentially 4.x given how easy it is to downgrade. And the launch o3ds xl's were 4.0-4.2.
The blue one I bought a year and a half ago was exactly 4.5.

I honestly didn't know that downgrading was easy. I was also really just trying to answer his question as literally as possible. I was thinking XL shipped with the 5.0 area firmwares, it's been a long time.

I have a launch day XL and about 15 3ds's so I know my stuff in this area.

Short answer is no. long answer: n3ds' shipped with 8.1 japan and 9.0 NA/EU. If you downgraded them you would would likely get a brick as the lower firmware wasn't coded for the n3ds hardware. Downgrading from 9.3+ to 9.2 is currently not supported due to lack of kernel exploits.

Just hunt around on ebay for quotes. Give @Ronhero a PM too while you're at it.

yeah iirc they released a couple of bundles that include the smaller N3DS in US, idk if its being sold outside of bundles though, but yeah a official (i.e non region swapped)US small n3DS would be impossible to find afaik they all shipped with 9.4+

yeah im pretty sure they were confirmed to have 9.4 on (tbh i dont think anyone was expecting otherwise, even some launch US n3DS XL's had 9.4 on, so consoles shipped a few months later would be pretty much guarenteed to be 9.4+), i think it was a animal crossing happy home bundle

Im just gonna put this out there, I had no trouble at all finding New 3DS XL with 9.0U as recent as last weekend. I put the gbatemp firmware guide on my phone, went to Walmart and looked at the serials through the glass case. They had none of the colours I wanted at Walmart, just red. So I went to GameStop. I told them I want a specific console and I need to match the Serials. I just waited til they werent too busy, looked around the store a bit. Once it quieted down in like 10 minutes or so I had all 3 employees helping me find one, reading serials while I checked them. Dont pay more than MSRP unless you cant find one. I think that's a scam.

I'm not hating on something like that, if you're gonna run around for ppl and spend your time and gas that's a service and you deserve whatever fee somebody deems worth paying. But I've seen people on here saying things like $300 on ebay for a a lower firmware console. In the past few months I got a xl at the pawnshop on 4.5 for $100 CAD, another regular size 3DS on 4.3 for $60 and a ps3 game at a pawnshop. Then about a month ago I got a black New 3DS at Walmart on 9.0 and last weekend I got another black 9.0 one at gamestop. Ppl are making like they're impossible to find and Im telling you they aren't. If someone pay you for the convenience of doing something they could do themselves but don't want to, well that's a service and you deserve to be paid. But the ppl with ads on eBay for "Rare low firmware New 3DS" are full of it. They're not rare yet, at least not in North America as far as I can tell.
