Okay so i was installing rxtools on my 8.1.0-18(U) 2ds and the tutorial told me to format the system before installing fbi over health and safety, so i did. system finally reboots and it seems like ive accidentally flashed 3ds firmware onto my 2ds...low and behold i cant set it back up because i dont have a 3d depth slider

is there any way to fix this?

You have 2 options boot using L+R+A+UP and update using the recovery menu or
Invest in a Nand mod and flash back a Nand backup if you made one, other than that there's nothing you can do. I would just return it saying it's asking you to use a slider but you don't have one.

i dont have a backup unfortunately. Can i use someone else's nand backup? and how much is the nand mod typically?

Keep in mind, when updating throu the recovery, you update to 10.2.0-28x.
Damn. so what happens to the GBA roms i installed using pasta? those are gone now arent they?

No you cannot use someone else's Nand backup they are console specific.

And now that i'm thinking about if you do update you might end up downloading 3DS firmware what exactly did you do and what tutorial did you follow?

- No you can't use someone elses backup (NAND or linked to your console specific)
- If you upgrade, you loase all piracy ability (including your already installed games)
- Only your legit bought games will come over to 10.2

[EDIT]
Partially Ninja'd by @Xenon Hacks :P

okay so then to boot to recovery, when do i press l+r+a+^?

i used this tutorial: http://hackinformer.com/2015/06/23/official-rxtools-v2-5-disabled-signature-checks-released/

also maybe it might be useful info, i couldnt get into the rxtools mset exploit through the ds settings so i redid it through the browser

THIS TUTORIAL PART IS WRITTEN FOR THE OLD3DS BECAUSE I DO NOT OWN THE NEW 3DS AND CAN’T TEST IT
First
you will need to set up EmuNAND. Skip this if you already have EmuNAND
1. Download GW 3.2.2 Ultra Beta
2.Extract the GW 3.2.2 Ultra Beta and open the GW_Ultra_3.2.2(Public Beta) folder. Copy the Launcher.dat to the root of your 3DS SDCard.
THE NEXT STEP WILL WIPE THE 3DS CARD SO BACKUP EVERYTHING ON THE CARD
3.Power on the 3DS, open the browser and go to http://go.gateway-3ds.com/ . When the screen flickers hold the L Trigger. In the Gateway Menu go to Format EmuNAND and confirm it. After it finished shutdown your 3DS.
Congratulations you have now set up EmuNAND and you can now copy back the things you saved earlier.

The first line says it's for the old3ds not 2ds

old 3ds includes the 2ds generally from everything ive read.

Hold -> L+R+Dpad-UP+B then while holding the buttons power on your 2DS
Yeah it's tricky, use a pencil in your mounth to power on.

But like @Xenon Hacks says, i do not know what it will update to, since you have softwarewise a 3DS now.

so should i update or borrow cash from a friend to grab a new 2ds and return this one?

Well then you read wrong, you should try getting a used 3DS instead the 2DS has a lot of issues when it comes to CFW anyway.

I really don't get it fully.

- 2DS, you did a system format?
Normally this would not be a problem, since a system format doesn't install anything, it just wipes stuff and set's your 2DS back to factory default on your current firmware.

So how did you end up with a 3DS firmware on your 2DS?
So, the only possible explanation is that you tried to downgrade to a system version lower then it was on, meaning, No way the system software could know you have a 2DS, since 2DS didn't exist yet.

I don't think it is a 3DS firmware.
You must have installed a downgraded System Settings menu, the one that let's you use th DS Profile hax.
If you do that on a 2DS and later format it you get this slider problem, but otherwise your system firmware is still a 2DS one.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

    For your R4

It's old but it's the best firmware out for DS stuff
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    nvm it does support mine

but why choose it over ysmenu @Psionic Roshambo?

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
