Does this mean the Gateway GO and rxtools web adress will not work anymore either? Because that would suck balls as I use it on my old 3DS (9.2) whenever I need it (I basically use it as ROM decryption machine).
Can't test right now.

As Quantumcat said, it only affects people on 9.9 and above (unless you randomly installed the 9.9 or higher browser on your old firmware..). Please see http://gbatemp.net/threads/browserhax-is-dead-on-any-firmware.400930/page-11#post-5761864 if you want more info.

My guess as to why nintendo is blocking (at least trying to) all free useland entrypoints (being browserhax, theme hax and ironhax) is that, with those FREE solutions you can achieve userland code execution (being the HB launcher and all homebrew in our case)
And if you are able to get userland code execution, when a arm11 kernel exploit pops up out of nowhere (it is litterally bound to happen, as long as people keep looking for flaws in the 3ds, flaws leading to arm11 kernel access will be found, and once you have arm11 kernel code exec, any further countermeasures from nintendo are useless, for reasons I will not discuss :P

This is why they are fixing any free way to execute code for as many firmwares as possible, since an arm11 kernel flaw Is bound to apear sometime in the future, they want to at least prevent most of their userbase from having access to piracy for free (no, this doesn't mean that an arm9 exploit exists for 9.3+, I have no idea about that matter and I can't discuss the "piracy for free" matter anyway) (believe it or not, but most people give up on piracy if they need to buy a special item/game to access it) and in my opinion the retro ban of the 3ds browser was a master move, GG nintendo for that booby trap. Also on a side note, they made a second masted move, any game cartridge with 9.9 or higher update contains a "dummyspider" this is simply an empty browser that will keep telling you to update sais browser to be able to use it, so DO NOT UPDATE TO 9.9+ with a game cartridge (triforce heroes being one of them) if you want your current browser hax to work.

(Boy, this was a long post and I'm not even sure most people will get what i'm trying to say, but whatever.)

Yep, this works. I really want to know what the DNS is doing to bypass this though.

I assume it is blocking the server that blocks usage and pops up the update nag.

Does it still work without the DNS?
There is always the option of using the DNS, installing themehax ASAP, and then simply removing the DNS from your settings.

I believe it will first try to use the first DNS to connect to the Internet on boot, it will try for 5-10 seconds and them switch, but during that time, if you boot the browser, it will not be able to receive the message that you need to update the browser, but then it will switch to the second one, but by the time this is done, you are already inside the browser, thus giving you Internet access but no update nag.

This is an uneducated guess, but if you try to change the dns to something random that doesn't exist,it should work as well if my theory is right

Nope, install ThemeHax, IronHax or OOTHax while you have the chance!

It doesn't affect me personally, I was just curious. So I guess that means the Tubehax DNS finally has been updated to block it. *Updates info post..*

I don't know if this question has been answered yet so I'll ask it:

O3DS, 9.2: not affected I know
Emunand however is latest version with a downgraded browser for ram hacks. The downgraded browser however has a spoofed version number (some high number)

Would that get me the update msg on emunand?

Assuming the answer is yes, apparently it checks your browser version against the server version. So what if we install a downgraded browser with the same version number as the latest browser version, would that prevent us from getting the msg?

I'm going to think of getting Cubic Ninja, because it is unpatchable :yaynds:
You never know :p

For the moment on this O3DS, i have IronHax for NinjHax 2.5 exploit and ThemeHax still is on NinjHax 2.1 exploit, think i'll update later this evening this O3DS

So im not home yet and havent checked to see if browser still works. but im on the o3DS on system 10.1 but i have had the tubehax DNS in my settings since tubehax went dead. Is the auto update message gonna pop up for me when i try to load the browser?

Next up:
  • Nintendo releases an update that opens all doors for hacking, DS Profile, browserhax, tubehax, ironhax, ninjahax, OOThax are re-introduced in 11.0 for both O3DS and N3DS. Little did everyone know that after 4 months, a hidden timebomb that was ticking from the start would go off and shut the floodgates.
  • Nintendo releases a new update with special never-seen-before coding skillz that searches the cache banks of the console for unsigned code, and if it returns positive, it overclocks all the chips and melts the plastic casing of your handheld.
  • Nintendo decides to start slamming the ban-hammer on whoever uses hacks, and we end up with a massive ban-wave across millions of units.
  • Nintendo decides as I type this message, to make new servers that don't have "Nintendo" in their domain name, which will silently update your console. Next time you boot up your 3DS, either update or get bricked. Oh, and your NAND backups are going to be useless because Nintendo will have rewritten everything.

Well, last night I was able to connect to browserhax just fine, after people were freaking out about it not working anymore. I know a few months ago, I updated my firmware to 9.9 from like 9.5 to get the Youtubehax. So, I didn't update via a game cart.

Well, just 5 minutes ago, I changed my Router ssid name, and had to remake my internet connection on my O3DS XL, I forgot to put in the dns, and yeah, I was greeted with the nice friendly forced browser update message. Phew, good thing I have Themehax installed already.

Yeah, call it a bit paranoid, but I removed the internet from my 3DS. I don't trust anything now. :P

Can you guys try turning wireless off completely, reboot the device, and then open the browser? If Wi-Fi is off in theory your 3DS should not know you are not running the latest firmware and the browser might open. I am not getting this update request on my systems so I cannot test if it works.

Did anyone try the method I suggested last night? Someone liked it but I didn't read anything about it working or not :)

Still unable to reproduce on any of my systems updated to 10+.
