So 5.5 is 'definitely hacked', just not available publically for x amount of time? I might have to send my Wii U in to get it's wifi thingy fixed as my gamepad keeps disconnecting and the gamepad has been fixed 3 times now, no doubt they'll update my Wii U even if I ask them not to, so may as well if it'll still be hackable in the future.

Any news about region free patches? Would really love to play my ntsc games on my pal Wii U :)
Only possible with IOSU kernel exploit (what Hykem's working on) since you'd need to patch the disc reading code to ignore region (or just read the disc yourself, would also allow raw dumps like ODE people are able to do)

Yes

With the Wii U 5.5 update, is it possible and safe to install a USB Loader and any iOS packs needed for that installation?

I think @Djent is talking about vWII (Wii mode), because he said IOS not IOSU..

In that case i think hacking a vWII is still possible with Firmware 5.5..
Please correct me if i am wrong.

btw this thread is not about vWII hacking so any following discussion should continue in the right GBA thread.

Is it possible to refuse firmware updates on retail discs at all and be able to play the game?

Hello, i have some newbie questions,
can i use only the loadline for play backups ?
the gecko dosent play backups ?
I still need the Smash Bros U play backups ?
can i play only on SD card ?

And the last question , when the exploit will work on 5.5 ?

the gecko dosent play backups ? No, it does not, it only reads files and modifies RAM contents
I still need the Smash Bros U play backups ? Technically no, Mii Maker can also be used as a base for SD access
can i play only on SD card ? SD card is the only viable loading method that doesn't take five years to load on big games

And the last question , when the exploit will work on 5.5 ? Nobody knows for sure, but a tentative date of "before February" is currently in place

Is it safe to upgrade to Wii U 5.5.1, I dont loose my homebrew channel?
Check the "Basic Do's and Don't's of vWii Modding" thread for more info regarding this. But as you know, in any case, updating is never safe. It can patch exploits and sometimes remove files.

No, I don't think so. For 5.5, we don't have kernel access yet, so no modding for the Wii U, although we have the most important keys now (except BootROM, boot0 and boot1).

edit: Below is provided a guide from Djent, which teaches you how to run HBC on 5.5. ;)

Last edited by lonemoonHD,
I used this guide:

2gb Trancend SD, Smashstack (PAL version). Played ALOT of F-Zero GX (my reason for doing the softmod). Installed 16:9 HBC forwarders, all colors, installed Nintendont forwarder.

I also did the Stashstack PAL on my friends WiiU, worked fine there too.

Have not installed any other WADs.

Have HBC been reported to fail on other units running 5.5?
