I was getting the same errors that @ric. got from the MSX system roms linked in @daxtsu 's post. I've gotten MSX emulation up and running before on other platforms (PC, Android) so I thought it might have been an issue with those system roms. I tried the roms used in MSX.EMU, and I was able to boot MSX games up just fine in fMSX :) Not sure if I can post the link, but ExPlusAlpha has the roms provided right on the site since it is the homepage of the MSX.EMU author.

fMSX is now integrated officially for 3DS (and it now has controls in general across every platform, or it should), meaning we now have an MSX emulator to use. Saving to DSK files is still not possible yet (when booted from ROM files).
I tried to save a state on the build you posted but it gave me an error. Does the core even support it or you simply didn't implement it yet? Because if it doesn't I guess there's not much that can be done about it.

They're not working yet.

For those with system ROM issues, you can try http://fms.komkon.org/fMSX/ as well, those worked for me too (scroll down near the bottom).

Edit: I'm pretty sure it's okay to share links to the system ROMs, since they're publicly on the official fMSX site, as well as in the RetroArch source code. I'm assuming they're public domain. Game ROMs are obviously not okay.

Brilliant stuff! This runs full speed on the N3DS.

Interestingly, I tested it on my O3DS and MSX games run full speed on the O3DS. So there you go, O3DS users! Something new to play with! The full rom set is about 20MB and you can play lots of 80s arcade ports!

I've had less luck with MSX2 games though, some strange garbage on screen. But original MSX games are fine.
FYI full MSX ROM set does not exist. Once you start exploring it's a really deep hole.

GoodMSX is 20MB but contains only a fraction of MSX games.

Great work on getting fMSX integrated! Working great for me following original instructions.

That worked, thank you! Every game I've tried so far works flawlessly.

Most GBA games are running great for me! Only major problem I've run into with GPSP is Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. It crashes whenever I enter a battle. Maybe something to do with the yellow star transition animation it plays to go into the battle screen?

Any way to get this working? I loaded a save file I already had and it seems to work fine except for battles.

Why are GBA emulators so slow? Is it because GBA roms are too much? Then the next smea will fix that (or make it better) correct?
The 3DS isn't exactly powerful, so emulating GBA games is complicated. It might be possible at acceptable speeds, but it'd take a lot of dedication and effort from developers. We aren't even able to use the GPU currently, so it's only natural that the games run slow.

The next Smea release will only give developers more RAM to work with, but that really won't have any impact on emulation speed as one of the biggest problems with emulation on O3DS is the clock speed. No hack is ever going to fix that.
If you want to play GBA real badly, your options right now are:
-Buy a 9.2 3DS and use VC injects
-Buy an N3DS and use gpsp.
-Buy a Supercard DSTWO (and a third-party battery, because those things suck a lot of battery)

To add to that if you're going to go as far as to put buying a N3DS and running gpSP as an option, might as well also recommend other devices. The PSP still holds its own for budget handheld emulation. There's plenty of Android options (I couldn't say one way or another on the WIndows Phone or iOS front). There's also still my preferred: just grab a Game Boy micro and an EZ4 flashcart. Yeah, it takes some preparation to setup your ROMs to fully utilize all its features, but it's easily portable and runs perfectly.

I had completely forgotten about the PSP, thanks.
I never recommend smartphones because while it is convenient to have games on your phone - since you don't have to carry two separate devices, touchscreen controls are terrible and external controllers are messy and bulky.
Does the EZ4 flashcart support games like Yoshi's Topsy Turvy and WarioWare Twisted? What about Boktai? I've never owned a GBA flashcart so I'm curious.

Find a patched rom

I'm sure you can fix those with patches. I don't care about those games so I never messed with them. As for the Android controllers, some decent portable controllers have been popping up lately.

But they'd suck with patches. They were built to be played with motion controls.

The special carts aren't so expensive, it's kind of unrealistic to want a flashcart with a gyro sensor, pedometer, solar sensor etc. built in.

Well, yeah. I'm just saying that would be an option. In my opinion, those games suck in the first place. :P
I imagine those patches would also be required on the PSP. More modern devices seem to support some form of motion. So Android (including things like Nvidia Shield) and (eventually) N3DS/3DS would be the main options for those if someone wants to enjoy those games.
