Hi everyone. I brick my 3ds xl by attempting to update to 9.2 using sysupdate. When I turn on the 3ds, the screens stay black. I have a NAND.BIN backup from gateway. Can I use this TUT to flash my NAND with the NAND.BIN? Thanks in advance.

Edit: Or do I need to use a Arduino.

What CFW/flashcart and mode did you use to run sysupdater? Did you use the latest sysupdater? (0.4.1)

I used the latest sysupdater (0.4.1). I used rxtool from this tut. I installed sysupdater in sysNAND. It installed just fine. Then after the reboot it was bricked.

Edit: Also I have tryed removing the game card and sd card.

Did you use dev mode on rxtools? If you didn't then you used firmlaunch which is known to brick sysnands.

Anyway, you're on the right track by getting it hard modded. Here is a good video tutorial:

Or check out @hundshamer if you feel you're not up to it. He's good.

Ohhh. Was there a devmod option? Whoops. I guess I'll just hard wire it to a sd adapter and unbrick it for now. Then when I have time and money, I'll add connectors.

So I have one question. Can I use nand.bin with Win32DiskImager?

Edit: by devmenu, do you mean the devmenu cia installer?

no, there is a dev mode (same as pasta) in which only sig checks are patched (this allows piracy/unsigned cias). Firmlaunch alters much more of you firm to spoof a later firm version which allows you to run more current titles. Unfortunately, it interferes with the updating process and leads to a brick. Gateway has the same issue when updating sysnand with a cart.

Well that sucks. I didn't see it when I skimmed through it. Aright thanks. I guess I'll unbrick and try again. Thanks!

The best option is to use pbt cfw. I can confirm that I used it and successfully update my O3ds to firmware 9.0

That's hardly the best option since it's unreliable and devmode rxTools is much easier to boot and use.

In any case, I wish OP good luck :)

I agree that pbt-cfw is a pain ever since other cfw came out. However, like I recommended in those update tutorials it should give steps separately for both 4.x systems and those above 4.x. For instance, for 4.x systems that want 9.2 I really recommend pasta cfw with nop90 mset POC. That way no one will ever have issues with updating that way as there is no catch on what mode to use. From my perspective it is easier for those who are doing it the first time as you can predict that most will not read fully like the OP has truthfully said he didn't.

So to sum up, I recommend for 4.x:

1) Use Pasta cfw with nop90 mset POC
2) Use sysupdater .3

I have always used .3 and will continue to do so even if future versions come out. Since sysupdater is being used for updating sysnand in these cases why not use the guaranteed version that was working prior to that brickfest of the beta one.

Rxtools is defintely much better. But it's also a pain. Maybe the question is what method is more painful? lol
I personally prefer pbt cfw and it's 100% reliable. I have tried it in many 3ds systems ( not N3DS,obviously) and it never failed me.
On a side note, I don't think updating to 9.2 is worth it. In fact, it's more of a hassle since you will have trouble downgrading mset and making it work properly. I think 4x firmware is still the best option out there when it comes to exploitable mset and rxtools compatibility.

PBT-CFW is obsolete. No one should be using it now. Updating to 9.2 is worth it. You don't have to downgrade mset if you don't want to now that yellow8 released other entry points.

I am using pbt only to downgrade 3ds and I prefer that method.
What advantages does 9.2 have?

The ability to use themehax as an entrypoint for example. It allows to autoboot CFWs almost as soon as the console is powered on.

Obrigado :)
Autoboot cfw is coldboot?

Yeah, pretty much. It's not exactly pure autoboot because it still loads the home menu first and only then it boots to the CFW (or whatever else it's configured to boot into) using an exploit in the themes feature. For pure autoboot we would need access to the bootrom like with the PSP for example. In any case, it's still as close as we can get to autoboot and it's already pretty good. ;)
