Little suggestion, can you make the thumb pad the default controls for the left, right, up and down? I prefer using the thumbpad rather than the d-pad.

@Lukein3D Highly unlikely to be set as default, since the stick is already mapped as something in RetroArch: namely, an analog stick (go figure).

If you want this functionality, you can enable it yourself. Settings > Input > User 1 Analog To Digital Type > "Left Analog".

Open the "retroarch.cfg" File in SD/MSD://retroarch Folder. Run a Search in Notepad for Analog. Should be the first one found and you will find it in the following:
input_player1_analog_dpad_mode = "0"
Set the 0 as 1
You now have the Thumb Pad accessible now in ALL Cores. Found this works better since RetroArch does not seem to want to load a new CFG when starting up.

Sorry for not wanting to read through 133 pages of the thread but can anyone tell me which retroarch cores run full speed on old 3ds?
QuickNES.
NXengine.
Genesis Plus GX for Master System/GameGear games.
Gambatte on certain games.

Actually, i would edit the Gambatte line. It only has problems with certain GBC games (the ones that put the console to its limits)

Damn, it looks like i'm obsessed with Gambatte or something ^^U

Have to thank them, Now I can play my Street fighter on the go, since there cps2. Hope to see cps3 make into 3ds build, or even Mame for more arcade titles.

It was mentioned a good amount of Pages back that MAME is a RAM hog so would have to go with a much earlier Build of MAME like around 0.074 .

MAME 0.36 would be a better option, as I believe that it was this one that was ported to handhelds like the GP32.
...or MAME4All v2.3, as that was what got ported to iPads and the PSP.

Retroarch has two older-mame cores, based on 0.78 and 0.139 (besides the up-to-date mame core). So it'd be one (or both) of those, nobody's going to port a different version especially.

Well hell, if 0.139 can be used, that would be great. More up to date, more selections, and of course Mortal Kombat Games which the 3DS needs :D . Just need to be able to have Button Mapping available and a way to access Test Menu/DIP Switches/Configuration Menu.

Out of curiosity, the CPS3 Roms wouldnt be able run would it? I looked at the File Size for SFIII, and it is 37MB, SFIII2 is 41.7MB. It is possible they MIGHT run, but who knows.

I doubt it - that's the compressed size, and from experience I know there are smaller compressed NeoGeo roms that don't run due to the ram overheads. I'd love to see CPS3 working on the 3ds too though.

It's a shame there's not a ZiNC core in retroarch - I'd love to see those games on this system, especially now we know Playstation games run. Are any of the System11 drivers that ZiNC runs (cpzn1, cpzn2, psarc95, tps, taitofx1, konamigv, atluspsx) emulated in any cores in Retroarch?

It seems That if I togle fastforward and set max speed to 1.0x, I will get more decent framerates and the number won't fluctuate much around 59.8. Is this mode anything different from normal?

On old3ds with the latest nightly i have a big gain of FPS Harry Potter have 60 FPS on gpsp at the begining of the game

Don't know if anyone was curious about sega 32x emulation so i tried knuckles chaotix. It runs on picodrive but it runs even slower then sega genesis games. Genesis plus gx was not able to read the .32x file extension so i could not test it on there. Might be some luck for n3ds owners to have full speed 32x emulation.

Tested with o3dsxl 4.2sysnand with 9.9 gateway emunand using .cia version of the emulators.
Genesis Plus itself doesn't support the 32X so no surprise it doesn't work! :)

Picodrive does support it, though. I tried Virtua Racing Deluxe and it runs at a mighty 12-15fps in races on my N3DS! No surprise because the 32X is a complicated piece of hardware and most emulation efforts are not very optimised.

Ir disables vsync

Aliaspider>Wow, this is amazing, played some CPS2 yesterday, ran flawlessly (cia on n3DS 9.5 Emunand)

PSX was decent played some Parasite Eve (40-50fps)

any chance other systems from the FBA core get ported ? (CPS3/PGM/Cave gen1 etc..) (I remember the PSP supporting bigger roms with cache files)

Maybe it's me being stupid but I tried rotating/pivoting the screen on the wonderswan core to play a vertical shoot them up...but all I got was a "mirrored" version of the game ^^''

thanks again for your hard work!

EDIT : read that post : "screen rotation is broken currently, this is what causes the mirroring. accessible RAM for homebrews is limited currently for both o3DS and n3DS to only 64MB, so these large neogeo roms will only work once a way to access more RAM is discovered...." ^^"

I tried some Snes enhancement chip games today in CATSFC. Very impressed with Yoshi's Island, seems to run between 50 and 60fps most of the tme, obviously not full speed but minimal impact on the gameplay. Even the music comes off rather minimally scathed. Snes9x Next has some SuperFX speed-up hacks that are presumably not applied to CATSFC, maybe these could some how be ported over to CATSFC? Might be impossible. But even as it is, it runs nice.

More impressive was Street Fighter Alpha 2. This uses the S-DD1 chip and runs full speed 60fps! Star Ocean also uses this chip so presumably runs fine also. Didn't expect full speed so impressive indeed.

I'm pleased to say that Dragon Ball Z: Hyper Dimension, an SA-1 game, runs full speed now! Occasional drops to around 57fps.

All tests are on an N3DS.

CATSFC Plus -> Savestate Save&Load does not work properly. When I load a savestate, there's no sound and the game crashes on action.
Needs to be fixed as soons as possible PLS.

O3DS or N3DS? Because savestates works fine globally. :/

Also, don't expect CPS3 any time soon... Not even an Nvidia SHIELD portable can run CPS3 without intense specific speedhacks, or even the Xbox (Proper fullspeed, since it runs at about 50-55 with Frameskip...).
MAYBE after we get Hardware Acceleration, we may see something come from it...
But I can at least hope for MAME ~0.76, I imagine it would run well particularly on N3DS.

Hi guys,

Just want to know, whats kernel hack? I have an o3ds with rxTools emunand on 10.1 and the Catsfc is kinda slow. It´s that normal?

Thanks.

Kernel basically means extended access to lower-level parts of the system.
If you install the CIA builds, that's all in kernel mode, but it only makes a difference in PCSX so far, which has Dynarec available only on Kernel access systems.

The CatSFC thing is normal though. Nothing to fix that if you're using the regular build and not CatSFC+, which is essentially for N3DS.
