I just ran into a really nifty article on OMG Chrome about a new type of Chromebook case called Gumdrop. These fuckers are awesome. I just finished watching a Acer Chromebook 11-CB3 be dropped from 10 feet and still be perfectly in tact. For you Chromebook users here, you might want to consider this.

i hate it when i throw my chromebook (which i spend my own money, who as a student is just surviving in life) across the room.
Lol nobody in their right mind should be tossing their devices but some people do have butterfingers. I wish there was something like this when I had an iBook back in high school.

Untrue - Windows isn't the best OS just because of the fact that it's pre-packaged, it's the best OS because it became the industry standard, breeding a large legacy of software and hardware designed with it in mind. It's not just adopted by the customers, it's adopted by the industry at large and it's a fool-proof solution for the end-user. The biggest downfall of Linux is the fact that there isn't one Linux you could standardize for - it's just hundreds upon hundreds of disjointed distros connected with each other only by one of the several base kernels, and that's not a favourable environment for a consumer that just wants his shit to work. I know you love the tux more than life, but the fact of the matter is that Windows users just use their computers to work wheras Linux users work on getting to use their computers, 10 out of 10 times. Linux is a great solution for industrial applications and hobbyist use, but it's not a consumer-grade OS, despite the numerous attempts at making it one in the past. If Windows has a consumer-grade competitor then it's Mac OS, not Linux of any variety - that should satisfy you since it's UNIX-based anyways. It sucks, but it's a competitor.

Anywho, this is a thread about Chromebook covers, so I'll stop my rambling here - I just wanted to say that Chromebooks are cancer based on principles in computing that I despise and it worries me that Windows too is becoming infected with the horrors of the Cloud. The "Cloud" is a useful tool, but it should never be considered primary storage unless it's "your own Cloud" - a server you set up yourself that relies exclusively on your own expertise and care.

yeah Android the number one Mobile OS is not consumer-grade OS... and Windows phone is.

Android is a bastardized version of Linux - the Linux kernel is there exclusively to run the Java-based Virtual Machine on-top of it. Android does not run native Linux binaries - it never did and probably never will, I consider it a special case. Moreover, we're talking about PC's here, not smartphones.

you can use C and C++

I work with android alot, and have a good understanding of it."bastardized"? lol no. its pretty much and standard Linux OS but runs on smartphones.

desktop... if ChromeOS and Android merge one point, dont be shocked. you can run some android apps already.

You guys know that this thread wasn't supposed to be a freggin OS flame war.....RIGHT? I swear, why can't people love their favorite pieces of plastic and silicon without being asses to other people?
I do apologize for the derail - my fault. I tried to nip it in the bud, but sometimes conversations just go out of control. :P I'll hush from now on and suggest others to do the same - if anyone wants to continue the chat about OS'es, there's always PM. ;)

This will be my ONLY derail. I get that people like their OS of choice and that's cool. My thing is, I will respec your choice if you made it for your sake of use and NOT for the sake of looking cool like most Apple fans. Additionally, I really wish that we would stick with 4 major OSes nd stop with the crazy branches of Linux. Chrome, Windows Mac and Ubuntu and their married OSes (i.e. iOS and Android) are just fine. Do we really need to split the market more.

thats another way of thinking that is which is stopping development of other OS's and advancements in technology.

we have windows, it works. better use windows only.

is the same as i eat meat only, well sometimes you need to eat other stuff to be healthy.

I quite like what Ubuntu's doing with Linux - they don't exactly have the most efficient setup in a software sense, but they've done wonders in terms of standardizing Linux and making it approachable to everyday end-users - it's probably the most plug-and-play, user-friendly distribution out there to date. ChromeOS I could live without - it's good for browsing the web, but that's about it, hence I have a hard time treating it as a full-blown system. I'd be happy if it died out in favour of an official and wide-spread x86 revision of Android.

I enjoy Chrome OS. If anything I wish more Android apps make it over but aside from that, I like having a desktop experience (Chrome) and a mobile experience (Android). The ONLY reason why I'm considering a hybrid Windows/Android tablet is for my job so I can give them their laptop back. Even with that I will be using the Android side 80% of the time.

I like how this immediately went from a laptop case to some deranged hipster waving his raging boner for Linux around.
Granted Foxi fired the first shots but hey. He was just postin' the truefax.

10/10 LightyKD thread.
