As you can see the right side works fine but the more you go to the left the worse it gets. I tried using the calibrating tool in system setting but it just sends me on an endless loop, it doesn't even recognize i'm touching the red dots unless i click to the right of them which of course solves nothing.

Currently i'm thinking of disassembling it and giving it some thorough cleaning but does anyone have any other ideas? I never opened a 3DS apart so i'd like to avoid it if i can.

There's hope for a Xenosaga port.

Look for dust in the edges of the touch screen.
The same thing happened to my DS Lite a long time ago, it was some specks of dust between the frame and the touch screen near the edge.
Try to clean that up, perhaps try using a thin piece of paper to push out and remove some dust between the frame and touch screen.
That is how I solved that without opening my DS Lite.

It's too tight, i can't get in between the screen and the plastic

The only way to fix that type of problem is to replace the touch screen. The recalibration tool can help solve problems due to minor scratches, but in this case the entire touch screen needs to be replaced.

It's easy to replace it, but very difficult to do it perfectly. Unless you are extremely careful, there is a big risk of trapping dust between the touch screen and the LCD. It's a bit easier if you buy the touch screen with the colored bezel already applied.

Yeah honestly, just take it apart and try to clean the touchpad off. If not you will have to replace it. :(
