Ok, so I just read through this entire 25 page thread of FUD, flaming and trolling and I feel a bit exhausted. I just bought a N3DS and the first thing I did was put in Xenoblade and upgrade my firmware to 9.5 so that I could actually play something on my new system. I sure appreciate being treated like an idiot because gateway owners feel like waving their pricks at the Sky3ds owners.

So I see that Sky3ds is the only option for me now, and not even a very attractive one given its current situation. I guess waiting is the name of the game, either for a new sky card, or a price drop on the blue button cards.

What does anyone think about the possibility of a gateway update to support newer fw? I see 9.2fw was released on oct 29 of last year, and gw put out an update on dec 18. That's a pretty good turnaround until you realize it's been 9 months since the last update for new fw support.

Gateway does look like the better option than having to cycle through dozens of roms one at a time with the blue button. But hey, I should have thought about that before I started to play my new game like a chump.
If you're waiting for Gateway you should get comfortable, it's going to be a long wait.

It was some 16 months between their 4.x exploit and the release their 9.2 one. Since then Nintendo have learnt some good lessons and have their newer firmware releases locked down tight.

Anyone who claims it is impossible is foolish and shortsighted. But realistically, it could be years.

It'll take less time to track down an exploitable n3DS than it would to wait for Gateway.

Hear, hear! This should be quoted every time somebody asks if they should just wait for the next major Gateway release.

I'd considered returning the N3DS, but what could I say? Also, I bought it from Best Buy but they price matched the Kmart $100 deal, so I don't know if I would be able to exchange it without paying the difference at this point.

You aren't going to find an exploitable system in stores like BB anymore. They were hard to find 4 months ago.

I just picked up one that was 9.0 over the weekend, and there were a dozen more models on the shelf with it.

You should buy them all to resell later.

Say you bought it as a present and your nephew (or whoever) wanted a different colour. If you still don't get an exploitable one then you might have to sell it and get a second hand one off ebay or similar and ask the seller to check the firmware before buying.

I just got a n3ds with the price match deal, anyone wanting to part ways with a sky3ds?

I'll gladly buy it off you or trade you some vape stuff (I own my own shop).

Can you provide a screenshot of the reply from asix? You know somebody is going to ask, or call you a liar at some point. So it'd be nice to be able to link to some proof when that time arises. Cheers.

They've denied that its one of their cards twice now but If people are still skeptical they can ask them for themselves. btw my names not ray, its a junk account.

I went back and they were all QW1056 or QW1058 models, much too recent to bother.... except for one! I got a QW1037 model with 9.0. Soooooo, what else do I need to get gateway working? A zelda oot cart and a r4i save dongle? That seems like a pretty easy task to acquire.

Or a copy of Cubic Ninja. But both of these are only needed initially. Cubic Ninja can be used for Ninjhax at least. Either game just to act as an entry point to using anything on your 3DS.

If you have a Gateway, that's fine. But if not, just get Cubic Ninja so you can boot Reinand. A good free CFW for N3DS.

Oh, so that's what CFWs are! I should probably read the tuts and guides more. I thought flash carts were the only way about things, since I've been using them on every nintendo handheld since GBC. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but having to run emunand through a CFW doesn't seem like the most stable thing, I'm worried about reliability. Should I? Can Reinand do everything gateway does? Even as cool as all that is, I think I might still just go for a gateway. But maybe I'll get Cubic Ninja instead so I give myself some more options in the future. Thanks for the post MattK

I think it's funny, like i said before in other threads like this, and get called a conspiracy theorist.

All these newbies suddenly turn up after cfw and who wanna claim gateway is so easy that its better than a free cfw solution.

The level of skill required in setup for both is basically the same.

The difference in feature is between negligible and none.

Data mining trolls, i say.

Ugh, and that's why you're on my ignore list (and others' no doubt).

My favourite conspiracy theory is that you, "Nipples", "Flemenco" and "that guy who mentions the illuminati in every fucking post" are a single person with multiple accounts and Dissociative Identity Disorder.

Why? Because I'd really, really, like to believe that GBAtemp isn't home to that many nut jobs.

Home, they all have less than a dozen posts..... Gbatemp Home.... Ok

Multiple accounts? i think your projecting there, your own behavior unless you can back it, with ip's, even language style, etc which you can't unless facing a mirror.

For someone who doesn't have the fortitude to answer questions related to what they say in threads, that's rich.

Egomania is big in this one, just look at the post history.

The last being, calling out a great researcher in the sky cart as a potential lair.

No offense, but for my overly cautious stance on money spinning cart supporter who turn up out of the blue claiming noob stance(without a post history), you trade of as a know all fuck all, quirky, wannabe.

just for the record, princess, i was c'ing in Baghdad, while you were still in Dad's bag and have contributed more behind the scene that a 2 dollar Thai ass hooker.

Sorry i hurt your feelings in the past, but you haven't substantiated or responded to either occasion i potentially did, now have you, child....Lucky your not taken to serious or you'd set the scene back by your idiocy and butt hurt. Flame away on cheap shots and avoid any serious communication on topic, as you do....

I'm sorry, what are you accusing me of? Being a Gateway shill? Is this the first post of mine you've read, or did you see the one where I called gateway users assholes for waving their pricks at sky3ds users, while inadvertently making newbies like me feel like idiots for upgrading their N3DS to 9.5 because I wanted to play Xenoblade on it?

And your account is only a month older than mine! Maybe you're a CFW shill?

I've been on the flash cart scene on and off since the late 90s, when I first bought a Bung GB Doctor for my GBC. Later I bought a Flash2Advance cart for my GBA in the early 2000s. Later still, I bought an AceKard for the DS, but when I inherited my brother's up-to-date DSIXL, I bought a Supercard DSTwo and kept the AceKard on my DS lite. Now I finally buy a N3DS, and I can't make posts on the forum to learn more about my options without being called a gateway shill? GTF outta here. Way to be welcoming to new users. And you sure sound condescending to the veteran users on here. As hippy dave said, very classy. The community sure is lucky to have a peach such as yourself among it.

Also, I'm pretty sure we cleared the way for you ANZAC boys in 03/04. But I'm not sure how military service has any relevance to the discussion at hand.

Options:
1. Cubic Ninja (for ReiNAND) + DS flashcart - can sell Cubic Ninja afterwards if you wish (keep DS flashcart)
2. Gateway + Cubic Ninja - can only sell Cubic Ninja afterwards (have to keep GW cards)
3. Gateway + Zelda OoT + save dongle - can only sell Zelda/save dongle afterwards (have to keep GW cards)

Option one is the most cost-effective solution - if you find a CN cheap you could even make a profit (DS flashcarts can be very cheap).

The only difference is being able to play roms from the GW card directly without having to install CIAs.

I personally LOVE the GW. It works. Even with Classic Mode I can use Sky3DS or DSTwo. No issues.

But it costs $$$. Worth every cent.
