Correct. Out of region cias will still have to be unwrapped each time with Reinand, since it doesn't have built in region free (you'll need to launch freemultipatcher or NTR each time you boot emunand).
Unlinking will create a new folder inside of the Nintendo 3DS folder, basically the emunands ID.

Just looking at the requirements section for the region change, yes. But i'm fairly sure that guide is outdated due to 3DNUS being no longer functional (Nintendo Removed the files it would pull from). I don't know how reliant on 3DNUS that guide is.

So long as you're not going to format the Sysnand, you can connect the NNID whenever you want. If you install the Mset exploit, you'll lose the ability to manage the NNID from the System Settings in Sysnand though. Mset downgrades System Settings to firmware 4.5s System Settings, which didn't have that function at the time (as well as the 3D stabalizer & mSD wifi).

I'm fairly sure that certain iso site has the firmware files necessary for region change, but I'll do some research into it before I decide to commit.

Oh, I didn't think MSET removed all of the new capabilities of the n3ds. So even though my sysnand is on 9.2J the system will think it's 4.x? If that's the case, is there anyway to launch into reinand without MSET?

You can launch Reinand from the Homebrew menu if you don't want to use the Profile launcher. You'll require Cubic Ninja / Youtubehax / Ironhax to launch Ninjhax 1.1.

But if you made the CIA in region free you don't have to unwrap. And it will show everytime without the close the lid workaround.

Is this only for reinand or all cfw? If I remade my cias that have this unwrapping issue in region free will it be fixed when I load it currently with Pasta?

What is the close the lid workaround?

Well the close the lid was to refresh the home menu. So by refreshing it would show those out of region CIAs when reopened but would need to be unwrapped again. Can be annoying from time to time. But if you make the CIA's region free then they will load everytime you load up the custom firmware. I have not used Pasta but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Ah ok, that's probably a better option for me since I'll still be keeping my CN (sky3ds) in my cartridge slot for Pasta. I would just skip the MSET/devmenu instructions right? Is there a reinand .3dsx included in your pack as well?

Thanks for all the answers! I'm gonna look into the region change and report back with more info!

I would hold off on the region change as you are going to be using a public donor file that is being used by many people who are doing the same thing. The safest way is to use a donor by swapping with someone else if you don't have a donor yourself. Just a thought for you to consider.

Unless you already have a title manager installed to your Sysnand, you'll want to install Devmenu. If you have a Gateway Flashcart, you can launch gateway emunand to install the title manager if you don't want to install it to Sysnand though.
Yes .3dsx is included.

When you create the emunand, be sure to backup the contents of your mSD beforehand. The process of creating the Emunand partition will wipe the mSD; once you copy everything back, it'll be like nothing was touched on your sysnand though.

I have a o3ds on US firmware that I can probably pull the secureinfo_a file from using this. Thank for the warning though, I wouldn't want to use a public file either.

Yea, I've got BBM installed on sysnand currently because I used it to install cias with Pasta, it'll just transfer over once I create the emunand right?

Will definitely make sure I backup my mSD contents and nand before I start. Don't want to lose anything in case I make a mistake!

Sorry, so if I plan on launching reinand with homebrew menu, do I skip the instructions that has to do with MSET?

Shouldn't be a problem then.

All you'll need to do is Backup mSD > launch Gateway Menu > Format Emunand > Copy backup back to mSD > Launch Reinand from Homebrew Browser.
Just copy the files for Reinand to your mSD & Setup Emunand basically.

is it possible to install reinand without gateway and without cubic ninja? maybe with spider or something? I saw somewhere that cakesfw can be setup with spider? but that reinand has the best support for n3ds?

Browser exploit (spider) doesn't work on the N3DS (Uses a different browser). If you have the Youtube app or IronFall already, then you should be able to do it by just using Pastas menu. Otherwise, no.

Oh I see so if I have a new n3dsxl on 9.0 firmware my firmware is too old to possibly have youtube or ironfall because it's too old to connect to the eshop. However it's too new to have any of the 4.5 era exploits and so the only way to install any of the cfw's is with cubic ninja or gateway? I've been trying to read up on gbatemp all day to determine if I need to drop 50-70$ on ordering a cart/cubicninja or if one of the already available options would just work without anything extra.

This tutorial on installation seems to say you don't need cubic or gateway. It implies that you can just get fbi going via the browser? https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-installing-rxtools-custom-firmware-3ds-and-2ds.390867/ and somehow that will work?

do those steps assume your browser allows spider? or would steps like that work on my n3dsxl firmware 9.0? I just bought it a week or two ago, it'd been sitting at a toysrus in the middle of nowhere all year... the installation guide doesn't really mention spider though.

You can use Cubic Ninja to access Gateways Menu & Ninjhax or you can use Cubic Ninja / OOT (with gateways save injected; which would require you to have a save dongle or have access to Gateway Menu already) with the Gateway Flashcart to access the Gateway Menu & Gateways Emunand.

If you don't already have Youtube or Ironfall (Ironfall was removed from the eshop), then there's no way of getting it without having access to the exploits mentioned above.
So you'll need Cubic Ninja for cfw or Gateway Flashcart + Cubic Ninja or OOT with Gateways save.

That method is for the O3DS, won't work with N3DS.

I see so there's no reason at all to buy a gateway unless I already own cubic ninja, and if I find a cubic ninja then why would I want a gateway?

It's a bit of a shame I've got a wrapped gift box for youtube on my home menu but as far as I can tell there's nothing in it but a link to the eshop, which I cannot access because my firmware is to old.

Glad I'm finally getting to the bottom of this, I'd have felt really silly buying a gateway flashcart and then being unable to use it! I'll just keep searching my local used game shops for a cubic and not buying anything I guess?

You can get one off ebay reasonably priced right now.
Amazon prices for CN shot WAY up recently.

When I was trying to decide what to buy a couple days ago the way I saw it was 50$ for a broken game or 65$ for a flashcart with features? that's a no brainer, but now that I know the cart is useless without the game, I might as well grab the game instead! Hooray for learning.

Before I risk 50$ on a stranger on ebay or amazon with small seller rating I want to finish driving around my town checking all the second hand shops. Maybe I'll get lucky and get a cubic for 30-40$

There are a couple Buy it nows for $35 w/Free Shipping. :P

Both 100% Positive feedback! lol

I think I got everything right and am able to boot into ReiNAND, but DevMenu and BBM are not there. They only appear and are functional in Pasta. What do I do in this case?

Copy contents of mSD to computer > format emunand > copy contents back to mSD

Drove around town for like 7hours found a cubic ninja used copy for 30$ now I have a 64gb microsd card formatted to fat32, a legit retail cartridge of alpha sapphire, a 9.0 firmware n3dsxl and an sdcard reader.... now my end goal is going to be running cia's which i inject my alpha sapphire private header into, but still being able to spoof sysnand to access eshop updates for things like buying pokebank.... still so complicated! I guess I need sudokuhax, ntr cfw, and either reinand or cakesfw cfw? and I need to dump my retail cartridge rom and probably several more steps! My main goal is just to run a rom of alpha sapphire 1.4 alongside a copy of alpha sapphire 1.0 so I can both try to go online with one copy it as well as injecting old event pokemon if I want on 1.0 Shouldn't be too hard since I own a legitmate copy of the game but all these technical jargon sure is confusing! The save game compatibility might stink but maybe buying pokebank access would help? then again the 1.0 copy might not be able to connect to it even with a spoofed sysand?
