So I have an update nag on my 5.4 wiiu for more than a week ago and it keeps asking me to update the system. When I try playing an online game like splatoon, the game does not connect to the internet and asks me for an update to use online services. I want to know if a firmware spoof would help get rid of the nag or at least connect to the server. If there is a way to rid yourself of the nag can anyone tell me, especially since Mario maker is going to come out soon and I don't want to miss out on it.

Not sure if this is appropriate to ask:

Ordering a refurbished console, will it be updated to the latest firmware? Is that an unreliable method for getting an exploitable console?

Usually refurbished consoles arrive updated, you could be lucky though but it's not guaranteed you'll be exploitable. 5.5.0 isn't a bad version to be on for future purposes, but if you want to do hacking right away then you'll need a 5.3.2 or below.

Somewhat high likelyhood for 5.5 to have a homebrew/hacking future I take it? I haven't had time to read into this brightly budding scene yet!

Kernel exploits for 5.5.0 exist, although not publicly. Just don't automatically update to the next version (ie have blocking set up anyways), because there's good chance that Nintendo's looking for kernel exploits and might find some that are being used. Also, any IOSU exploits to be released for these versions have a decent chance of working on current versions as well, so there's that.

I bought my second WII U off Ebay for about $160. It was just the console and two installed games (Nintendy Land and 3d World). Came with 5.1.2. I bet you could get just a console for downwards of like $110 without installed games. I'd probably go for a New Basic edition WII U console seeing as they're no longer being produced. That would guarantee you below 5.4.0 for sure.

Well recently I bought a refurbished Wii U from Nintendo and they sent me one with 5.1.2 firmware, so you never know.

Bought one a few days ago off Ebay for £49 and it came with 5.3.2E. But if your going to go this route ask the seller what firmware the console is first.

so since we know how to inject snes games properly, have a quick way for it:

just a simple C app, windows only, edit the ip.txt for your wiiu, start gecko, go into game and vc menu, drag and drop snes rom into exe, click reset in the vc menu, enjoy your game. Oh also note I didnt even implement a timeout or anything so if it doesnt move on and is stuck just close and retry it, the whole process should only take a few seconds. If you feel like it doesnt send at all you can simply close the vc and re-open it from the wiiu menu to reset the gecko connection.

I wonder, out of morbid curiosity, if there's any code containing the Super FX chip, since the Wii emulator of the Snes VC didn't contain any.

The problem now is I can't seem to find Gecko for the Wii U, or a guide to getting started or get the Wii U IP address for the VC injection to work.

Any guides on setting up TCP Gecko and getting the Wii U IP?

Okay, well, I blacklisted all the Nintendo IP addresses using parental controls on my router, it was easy enough to do. I just need to connect it to my network, is the next thing. So, if I want to inject Snes ROMs to the VC, I:

- Connect Wii U to network
- Go to Comcast/Xfinity router IP site and get the Wii U IP address
- Somehow scrounge through 500 pages to find the Wii U exploit (that's gonna be fun to find since people don't want to stick it or add to the thread OP).
- I assume I point my Wii U browser to the TCP Gecko IP address (IDK lol)
- Enter the IP address in Fix94's Snes VC injection app IP.txt
- ???
- Profit

I don't know to be honest if I'm even close.

i would be surprised if nintendo bothered adding superFX support, only 2 games they would bother doing so would be Yoshi's Island and starfox....they just cheaped out and used the GBA YI, so i doubt they will add it for the sake of 1 game

But the code could be in there, that's what I want to test with ROM injection. The GBA VC version was handled by M2, not Nintendo, as M2 wrote the emulator.

That still doesn't answer my question on how I go about setting this all up.
