Hacking gateway nand backup + hard mod?

Just a quick question before I potentially brick my 3dsxl. Can I burn a gateway nand backup (I have 4.5 and 9.2) to my 9.9 xl using a hard nand mod? Or is the format different?

Do ya have the nand backup (4.5 and 9.2 one) of the same system in which you want to do a hard mod?

To be safe, have the NAND backup (from the same system) stored on multiple drives. I lost a save file when my primary SSD failed. It'd be much worse to lose a NAND backup.

Yup, if you have 4.5 or 9.2 backup, you should backup it, because, it will bring your firmware to an exploitable firmware and you can play free games, homebrews etc.!

Short n sweet answer is yes. Done it many times myself with multiple 3ds's.
