Hey guys, I've recently been wanting to play Pokemon online on my Gateway card. I've never really tried to connect online using games on my Gateway card and i was wondering if there are any precautions/things i should do before i did.

I would also like to know if there are any risks of getting my system banned or anything or if thats ever happened to anyone before. I will be doing this on a 2DS if that matters.

Thanks for any and all help.

Get SaveDataFiler & backup your save (once you inject a header into the file, the save will no longer work.)
Enter Gateway Menu & Backup one of your retail 3ds carts
Download Gateway Rom Patcher
Start the Rom patcher > Load .3ds file you just made from your retail game > Export header to file
Load pokemon .3ds > Check rename rom to .3dz at the bottom >Inject header from file (Selecting the file you just made from the export)
Place .3dz on gateway msd > Mount the game > Savadatafiler > Inject the save you made earlier.

With a private header (Backing up your own game and injecting its header into any of your other games) you will not be banned.

Just a few questions.

1. What are my chances of getting banned with a public header? I know back in February some people said they got banned from using public headers but didn't they get un-banned eventually?
2.. Lets say i have one private header from a game that i have purchased. Can i use that same private header for ALL of my other games?
3. Whats the deal with .CIA games? Do they not require a header? Are they safer to use online then .3ds/.3dz games?

And thank you very much for the reply!!!!

Check out this guide that I did today for another thread. Cia games use your console header and wont get you banned.

1.First google "bigbluemenu download" and download the Attached File .zip from the first site that shows up. Inside you have a .cia and a .3ds version of big blue menu wich is the cia installer.
2.Put the .3ds on the gateway red card sd like any other .3ds game and the .cia on the root of your 3ds sd card.
3.Go to your emunand hit select and choose big blue menu on the gateway multirom menu.
4.Launch it hit right once on the dpad and scroll down untill you find the big menu cia.
5.Press A to install and after the install finished hit the home menu button.

Now you will have big blue menu on you home menu of your emunand! search for the cias you want, put them on the root of your 3ds sd card and follow steps 3 to 5 again for every other cia.

The have been 0 reports of being banned atm with cias and I use them myself online without any problem. The catch is that some take a couple of minutes to install the first time not like .3ds games that don't need to be installed. After installing a cia you can delete the .cia on the root of your 3ds sd card. Search for as many Legit "perfect" cias as you can cause once you install those you don't even need Gateway or any CFW to play them IF you install them to sysnand using gateway sysnand mode.

Edit: You could also extract the save from gateway and inject it to a pokemon Cia using savedatafiller. all the pokemon games have Legit Cias versions.

1. Lets just say you're 100% more likely to get banned with a Public header than a Private header. Bans tend to range from 2 weeks - 1 month
2. Yes, 1 header to rule them all.
3. They don't require any header (uses the 3ds' id as a header) No safer than using a private header on a .3dz

Thank you so much! This is very, very, very helpful!

I just have a couple more questions (i just don't wannna fuck this up lol)

1. Are .CIA files big? I have a 4 GB SD card in my 2DS and im just curious if thats big enough.
2. Are there any other benefits to .CIA's? I see people on here talking alot about them and how they are really useful.
3. About your last sentence, so if i use Gateway to install a legit/perfect .CIA file, i can load up the games in my Sysnand instead of my Emunand? Is that the only difference between regular .CIA files and legit .CIA files? I'd honestly prefer to load them up in my Emunand, i don't want to risk having my wi-fi on for too long in my Sysnand and accidentally updating my 2DS. So should i just look for regular .CIA files?

Sorry if some of these questions are stupid

Thanks again!

Any benefits other benefits of .CIA's? I'm leaning towards using those right now since then i wouldn't have to go out and buy a game to get a private header.

Games in cia format vary in size depending on the size of the game.
You'll need twice the space of a cia to install to your 3DS' SD. The size of the CIA as well as space for the CIA to install the game. Once installed you can remove the .cia file.

Benefits to using a cia: You dont need a private header, you don't need the gateway card inserted

If you are only going to play them in emunand then regular cias will work great for you. Legit cias are great for sysnand but on emunand they would work like any cia. Your storage space is very limited. A pokemon alpha saphire for example takes almost 2gbs. And you would need an additional 2 gbs more of space to install it. Once it is installed you can delete the .cia on you sd card and have 2gb back. I recommend using a 8gb or more sd card to not have this problem.

So unlike the regular way, .CIA games use the internal 2DS SD card? Not the one in the red Gateway card?

Last question! I just want to be certain.

Can i use the header of any game? I know of this angry birds game thats like 2$ at KMART and was just wondering if i could use the headers from that for all of my other games.

If your gateway red card sd is much bigger than you internal sd I can suggest making a backup of both and switching them. you can use any game header for 3ds or 3dz games. :yay:

Honestly thank you so much! This answered literally all of my questions!

And i would've switched them but the one in the gateway red card is a micro SD while the one in my 2DS is a SD card. But im pretty sure i have a bigger SD card lying somewhere around here!
