I found a local store nearby me selling 9.0 New 3DS XL but it is quite pricey, $239 for the console alone, plus $64.9 2 gateway cards and $10 for a charger. Mean while there is another store selling Japan New 3DS LL for $170. So i am torn between the 2 options.

Is it worth it to pay the extra money for the US one? Or may be just use nds/3ds emulator while waiting for more news about nintendo NX?

You can always perform a region swap of your emunand, making the japanese bit irrelevant. Haven't done it myself, but I believe there are tutorials in the tutorial section on how to do this. I'd say get the Japanese one at that price difference.

Well, to you, is it worth being stuck with Japanese language in the firmware and having to download every update/DLC as a CIA file rather than being able to just get it from the US eShop?
Only you can answer that question. But to me, it doesn't seem worth it.
Plus you'll need Cubic Ninja or OoT to use the GW and Japanese versions of those are more expensive AFAIK, not to mention harder to get unless you live in Japan.

eShop won't work after the region change.
There's a workaround for that, but I heard the workaround only works on consoles that didn't come with a preinstalled game/software, and every n3DS comes with a preinstalled title, for EU it's a special Tomodachi Life demo.
It's also a pretty complicated and risky process, and it requires a unique donor NAND unless you want to risk getting banned by using a public SecureInfo file.
I wouldn't recommend it.

I want a Japanese n3ds LL only because they have the white one and it looks so much better than black (because they are both glossy).

If I bought the Japanese one, can I pretty much make it run any game in emuNAND? Would I be missing out on anything using it in the USA?

it is 8.1 according to the shop.

wait, do i must have Cubic ninja or OoT to use GW?
No I think you can use the browser exploit. Also, I would get the American 3ds XL, because of the bigger screen and there would be no compatibility problems later on, and don't wait for the NX because it's going to be a home console.

Oh sorry I got confused, but yeah they are the same size. I'm talking about games that won't work because they're meant for US 3DS's, so you'll have to get Cubic Ninja and get RegionFour if you have a Legit Cartridge for a game or if you end up not getting the Gateway cards, so it would just be simpler getting a US one since you live in US, but if your going to be playing roms only on the gateway (or japanese cartridges) and you don't care about the eShop than buy the Japan 3ds.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

But if you are just going to be playing pirated or backed up games, you might want to just buy a normal 3ds and get yourself a Sky3ds (Or QQ3DS for a DS card too + Less price).
