So here is my dilemma, I let a friend borrow my n3ds and told him strictly not to update the system. Well he called me a few days later and told me that my gateway was no longer working. He updated the system.... So heres my issue I have a nand backup but can't find anyway online to restore it. How screwed am i?

Your solution is hardmod. If he has updated your 3ds to the lastest firmware, then there is no other way because we can't softmod a 3ds past 9.2.
That, or you can wait for a future exploit that would allow softmod downgrading/flashing maybe.

First.. I'd suggest back handing your friend.
Second, make sure he updated the Sysnand and not Emu. If he updated the emunand, you can just restore or create anew.

Here's the crap i've saved regarding pinout / hardmod.

I don't use emunand because its kinda useless right now on n3ds I've just been using ntr cfw for spoofing firmware

You more than likely wouldn't need to hardmod had you used emunand. It's extremely useful in that regard alone imo. B-)
I've been using Reinand without a problem.

My little brothers get into my stuff while I was at school back in like February, and they updated my US 3DS and bricked my EU 3DS by fucking around with RXTools and I have yet to hardmod them. ;-; The person I was sending it to did it really cheap but before I could send it, they went silent since May, and I have the stuff to do it myself, except for the fact of me not being able to unscrew the back off either of them is hindering the hardmod even more. -_-

Edit: Also @hundshamer does hardmods. >_>

No it doesn't, they are just very small and need a small screwdriver. (If you attempt to unscrew them with a bigger screwdriver you might damage them and it might be impossible to unscrew).
I have the right ones. They're just really old and rusted and tight. Also I would have Hundshamer do it but I'm super low on money and don't have any way to get money. If I do get the money, I will get him or someone to do it for me if I can't myself.
