Hey everyone. I had help soft modding my wii some years back. I'm trying to get Skyward Sword to work and tried to get d2xv8 Final in slot 249, ios 56, as well as slot 250/ios57 using the d2x cios installer. I believe the installation failed, however. I have not updated things in quite some time and not even sure how to go about doing so. Just tried updating USB Loader GX using the update option under the settings of that, through the wii wifi. My wii made a disturbing sound and gave me an error message and then froze. Anyhow, any help here would be greatly appreciated as I'm extremely noobish when it comes to this and I'd like to get it sorted without bricking or causing any real issues.

Just ran sysCheck and the results are as follows:

...runs on IOS61 (rev 5405).

Region: NTSC-U
System Menu 4.2U (v481)
Priiloader installed
Drive date: 05.26.2006

How can I go about doing that the easiest way possible with zero problems? I'm afraid of bricking it and unsure where to start, sorry for the noobiness here!

This page should help you out. Make sure to follow the directions carefully! If you do that, you should have no chance of bricking. I wish you luck! Ask me if you still have questions.

Why would one want to update to 4.3? I thought it was bad to update, but I read that quite some time ago.

I think updating is unnecessary and ignorant, you should probably read a bit more before listening to a random on GBA I don't think thats the best way to go about it.

I haven't updated yet. Trying to make sure I do the best thing I guess. Not in a hurry to rush out and do it, just don't know really what approach to take.

But wouldn't updating be the safest way to make a clean home brew reinstall and the best way to make sure everything is installed correctly?

updating wouldn't wipe your softmod entirely.
4.3 just add hard-mod chip blocking and replace cios with stubs, IIRC it won't even touch HBC. The only benefit may be for an upgraded shop channel which some user might want to use (but that can also be done via softmod).

softmodding in its simplest form is to install HBC, replace system menu and add a few cios for usb game loading.
re-softmod can simply be done by updating HBC, and over-write old cios with new ones.

To softmod from scrap is always a little bit risky for noobs who don't know what they are doing.
