I don't want to downgrade MSET (the 3ds is not mine and I' afraid that the owner, that is a young boy, the son of a friend of mine, could try to format the sysnand sooner or later bricking the 3ds).

Updating to 9.2 is an option, but I'll prefer to not try to manually update since it's not my 3DS.
I have already formated my console with a downgraded mset (4.X on 9.X) and many times (3, I think), this has never bricked my 3DS... Is this a real probleme ? Or it's a noob again that suppose it because he don't know what he has done ?
Set parental control so he can't format it
Great idea !

How do I downgrade MSET? What does it do when I downgrade MSET?
Mset is the 3ds settings app, by downgrading it you can re-enable a previous entry point that allow you to run rxTools without internet or cubic ninja for exemple.
Also how do enable DEVMODE?
Go to "DEVMODE" into "ADVANCED OPTIONS" in the rxTools menu, that's all.

Your console will reboot into sysnand but not in rxMode, in devmode.

Will it still work if I have never used MSET?
It works for anybody between 4.X and 9.2. And that's does'nt mean that you can't return to your setting after that, everything will work exactly like before.

There is an option in rxTools to downgrade the mset, read this .txt (you can find it in the "tools" folder into any rxTools release).

I have to be doing something wrong. I've downgraded mset, I've tried the browser method with the ROP loading, but the screen doesn't pass through the white page and the loading message. I tried putting the .nds file on the R4 card, it said it installed, but still nothing.

Note: this was all done in a 2DS. I put all the necessary files where they're supposed to be, still nothing.

What' your version ?

Sorry I haven't stayed current, mset downgrading works in rxTools v2.6? On any System Firmware version from 4.x to 9.2?

I'm on 4.2 sysNAND and would rather be on 9.2 sysNAND but only if mset downgrading works on 9.2.

Thanks.

Just a heads up, but here's the bricking "schematic", if you will, for system formats.

O3DS/O3DSXL = 4.x/6.x MSET SAFE
2DS = 4.x MSET SOFTBRICK / 6.x MSET SAFE
N3DS/N3DSXL = 4.x MSET SOFTBRICK / 6.x MSET UNKNOWN (Likely SOFTBRICK)

If it's an O3DS, there's no risk in downgrading. If it's a 2DS, just use 6.x MSET and you'll be safe. If it's a N3DS, best to wait until more research is done first.

No, only on the 3.0 betas. And yes, any system between 4.X and 9.2, with both 4.X and 6.X MSET.

Do you have a confirmation for the N3DS?

Where can I find the 3.0 beta? Why isn't someone releasing the betas on the official rxTools releases page?

So your mset is not downgraded...

Be carefull with a 2DS you can't downgrade your mset to 4.X if I remember good ? Only 6.X mset.
Well, you CAN, it will work, but a system format will render the unit soft-bricked.
