Mset should only be downgraded on system nand not emunand. If you updated emunand to 9.5 this should solve this issue

And system nand is still at 8.1-9.2? Also when you launch mset does it give an error or the ds name tag screen?

at first it would black screen instead of booting emunand then i rebooted my 3ds then it gave an error and kicked me to homescreen

yes. should i use gateway to install the right mset version to sysnand ? undoing the mset downgrade D:?

from what i understand emunand is completely seperate from sysnand so the version on my sysnand shouldnt matter

region is US btw im formating emunand to start clean

You don't need to unlink them, personally I never saw a point but if your worried then backup system nand, format with no sd card, do the system transfer and when done restore the nand with gateway downgrade restore option

I just did it without unlinking. My sd contents will be on my micro sd in 2 minutes according to windows.

I put in my microsd, launched the emunand, and the n3ds created a blank home menu. Much sad.
