Recently got my Sky3DS and while I'm happy about all the options it has given me, I've been having some issues with it lately.

One problem is playing games of a different region (my 3DS is EU). I used a Cubic Ninja (EU) game to run the exploit, then pressed the blue button to switch to my second (and last) game, a Pokemon (USA) game. I was then able to play it as if it were an European game.

However, some difficulties arose. I discovered the other day that if you don't press the blue button after saving the game, causing it to reset, you lose all your progress. Resetting the US Pokemon game causes it to go back to Cubic Ninja (either that, or I had to restart the console, I forget), and when I'm in the 3DS Home menu I cannot run the US game directly - pressing the blue button switches between the EU Cubic Ninja and an empty node (the foreign Pokemon title isn't displayed).

So far it seems like my only way of getting into the foreign Pokemon game is to play Cubic Ninja again, select QR code (don't have to enter it again at least), press the blue button, wait few minutes then press start and only then am I playing the 'foreign' title again.

Is this a progress I should expect to go through for every foreign game that I attempt to play, or is there an easier and faster way around?

Sky3DS emulates real cartridges, in oppose to patching the firmware like Gateway does. So in essence, when you press the button to load up a foreign Pokemon game, you're essentially putting a foreign Pokemon cart into the 3DS, which won't be recognised.

Why not just use EU Pokemon games anyway? It's not like they aren't available.

I'm only trying out if RegionFour works so that it's available when I do need to play a foreign game. Just checking everything works as it should.

So there is no faster way?

I suppose it wouldn't be bad at all if the constant freezing went away. It seems like all the games I've tried playing for any decent amount of time start having a freezing problem. Having googled a little bit around these forums, it looks like buying a new microSD card is the first thing to try out.

Freezing, definitely shouldn't be happening. Though yes, unless your firmware is <= 9.2 then this is your only way (aside from real carts, but it's still the same method).

Only if you are on 9.2 or below. Then you could use any of the available CFW.

Are you saying below 9.2 3DS users have an advantage even when using Sky3DS? I thought it was a Gateway thing only...

Could you tell me more about it?

That's weird. An American ROM of any of my Pokemon games (or even my American retail carts) show the icon on my Japanese New 3DS, not an empty node (other games DO show an empty node on my Japanese 3DS, Pokemon games however do not). I can't launch the game, but if I start Cubic Ninja and run RegionFour, the game plays fine. I can even press the home button to return to the home menu (while playing the import pokemon game), exit the game, and switch ROMs on my SKY3DS to save the save file. I would recommend using a EU ROM of your Pokemon game (before making significant progress). If I recall, a Sandisk Ultra Class 10 should probably fix the sd card issues you have.

A couple of stuff was released for the Old3DS and New3DS. They pretty much beat GW and Sky3DS quite easily with all the features they have and other things. It's easy to find those threads as they're the most active ones right now. rxTools, CakesFW, PastaCFW, and NTR CFW. As of now, they only work on Old3DS firmwares 4.X-9.2 and New3DS firmwares 8.1-9.2.
