People wanted it to be easy because they wanted to act like Gateway was the only reliable card. Time has proven that if the Sky3DS can be blocked, it's not going to be an easy endeavor. If it can't be blocked, well, eventually people will stop being surprised.

I hadn't even used my old 3DS, because I fucked up a shell swap big time, though I'm waiting for my imported N3DS to arrive. 9.7 hasn't even been cracked yet!! I just want old console emulators on the damn thing!

I am of the mind that if they could they would. It could probably be blocked, but it would cause some issues for the normal user.

Yes Sky3DS may have survived a lot of updates (and maybe some more or all), but that doesn't mean it's the greatest flashcard.

Of course not, there wasn't even a freaking FIRM update. All they changed was something random in the home menu (shifted some code around and changed 4 subroutines according to yellows8) and something in the NS module.
