Today i bought my N3ds from gamemania (dutch retailer) and i was lucky enough to findfind os version 9.0.0 on it. So to all people who are waiting because of the latest version and exploit compatibility. There are still brand new 9.0.0 consoles out there!

P.s.
I am not responsible if you are out of luck to find a newer version

right..

the new 3ds is much more recent, it comes with 9.x (not sure about comming with 8.x)

JP can get 8.1, mine had that (though I went to 9.2 without backup so the fact that it did is rather moot)

Bought a New 3DS XL at the Bart Smith (another Dutch retailer). Clerk allowed me to check the serials of the device. Checked 3 of them, all exploitable. They're not as rare as people might think, yet.

You could still purchase 3DS's XL's on 4.5 from Tesco Direct (UK) in January this year, I cant see it been that hard to obtain an exploitable console at the moment if you really wanted one.

did the small black versions (with the coloured ABXY buttons) in europe come with 9.0?
i'm in greece, so i may get lucky and pick an exploitable one

*Kid walks into Gamestop...*

Kid: Do you have a used new Nintendo 3DS?
Employee: Uhhh... used? New?
Kid: Yea, a used but new Nintendo 3DS
Employee: Yea I think we have several used ones
Kid: But is it new?

*10 mins later*

Employee: Here ya go.
Kid: No, it's not the new one.
Employee: ...wtf.

Game Stop employees may often be daft, but I'm pretty sure they'd correctly know exactly what the kid is looking for in the situation you described 99 times out of 100. The naming structure of the New 3DS is silly for sure, but it's not hard for anyone, especially in video game retail, to know what you're asking for when you're talking about the handheld.

I know, it was just a random example (you can replace "Gamestop" with "Game Store". Gamestop is just what I thought of at the moment). But yes I agree...

I made a post months ago arguing as a community we should not accept Nintendos stupidity and name it something else. It sure would make things less confusing on this board. We often use N3DS vs. O3DS but to some the N means Nintendo not new and refers to to small one.
