According to Gateway, in order to revert the System Settings downgrade involved in their MSET exploit process, you can either restore your NAND backup or install the proper System Settings CIA from 3DNUS. I have lost a computer sadly, and therefor lost my original NAND backup.

I would like to create a clean stock NAND backup, so is it as simple as download the System Settings for my firmware (9.0.0 US) and installing the CIA to the sysNAND just as I installed the mset_<region>.cia?

Just done it :) , indeed wise to store it on other places then only your PC

I would say one of the best place would be to leave the original copy on the 3DS SD card ;) (if you have enough free space on it, at least).

so you can now restore your NAND backup without a hardmod?

Only if you have access to the gateway menu, so it will change nothing if you brick your 3DS, because you'll still need a hardmod.

You could find a full system update form 9.0 from 3DNUS and update sysNAND that way. If you're currently on 9.0 it will see the out of date system settings and update only that component. That's my theory at least, I've never updated via 3DNUS because I have no idea what it is or how people find it lol

You've been able to do so, just not when your 3DS is bricked. It has to be running. You still need a hardmod when your 3DS is bricked.

It would be nice to see some kind of hidden service mode though like Jigkick on the PSP.

If you downgraded your emunand system settings or want to undo the downgrade in sysnand : download this ---> https://gbatemp.net/threads/3dnus.376488/
then enter these titles depending on your region and install via devmenu
US = 0004001000021000 9.0-9.5 = v8203
EU = 0004001000022000 9.0-9.5 = v8202
JPN = 0004001000020000 8.1-9.5 = v9224

Okay, well, what did you do so we can know for future reference?

Downloaded the System Settings title for the sysNAND version I was on with 3DNUS, booted into the Gateway launcher, held B while booting into Gateway Mode to boot into the sysNAND, loaded DevMenu.3ds, install downloaded System Settings.

Good instructions, but still scary. Should be restore mset option in gateway menu.

Also, I checked the checksum first with this

USA = 0004001000021000 9.0-9.5 = v8203 MD5: 5077D839633EC80E7A9D3CA98B794D4B
EUR = 0004001000022000 9.0-9.5 = v8202 MD5: 7D9E073A6349DDEF77E67B2102B4EEA5
JPN = 0004001000020000 8.1-9.5 = v9224 MD5: 375EDB36DA62AE44D4D8C91DAB854573
