Hacking How good is PSone Emulation on a PSP?

I wanted to get a Vita to play PSone games on it...but that didnt work out, so I am thinking of a PSP to play PSone and PSP games......

So how good is it to play PSone isos on?

Here are the games I would like to play.. just to name a few, but the most important.

Final Fantasy 7.8.9
Resident Evil 1 and 2.
Crash Bandicoot
Tomb Raider 1 and 2.

99% of games will work and when they do they are perfect as it's native emulation from Sony.
Those games work 100%, I've played them myself.
Tomb Raider has to be made a certain way or no music works, youu need a psx2psp that has CDDA compatability, just google that and you'll find the right one.

Thats to make them to Eboot files? I converted a few...

Also.. does the Eboot 3 disc final fantasy thing work on PSP too? where it will be one big file and the discs will switch?

Also... which PSP is best to get... which firmware..... stuff like that...

Yeh thats to convert to eboot.
Yes it will make 1 big file for FF and multidisc games.
Best Psp is a GO or 3000 (All work however and I use a e1000 Street personally, great screen, mono sound can be fixed with headphones but no wifi like it matter now anyhow), best firmware is 6.60 pro.

I can tell you that Megaman Legends 2 isn't going to work. It may or may not be a game you want to play but I can tell you from experience that I've never been able to get it to work for me past a certain point.

If you're on 6.60 or use POPSLoader for the latest version of POPS, the compatibility is near perfect. That said, there are a few games that run slightly better on older versions of POPS. For most people, using the the latest POPS is fine.

As for best PSP, that depends. Brite/Go, you'll get a nicer screen (more vivid colors, less ghosting), assuming the very minor scanlines don't bother you. Slim (for the most part) will give you good compatibility, full CFW, and proper NAND access. Phat has the best compatibility with older homebrew and CFW, but also only has half the RAM of the newer models. Most people will be fine with the Brite or Go.

If you desperately want multiplayer for your PS1 games on the PSP, then you can look into IRShell, but the multiplayer is buggy. It will never be improved, and will only work on Slims (maybe Phats too, I don't remember). An option I recommend the general user to avoid.

As for CFW, ME is the most up to date version, as it still sees some activity once in a while. It supports everything Pro does and more.

Thank you all for the information. It seems the only PSP around me at Gamestop is a PSP 1000. I have no idea what firmware its on, but ill go there and get it.... now providing its not 6.60.. can i update it to that one?

Minor scanlines wont bother me. As long as there are no real bad slowdowns.

I dont need multiplayer, nor do I really want it.

Now.. another big question.... I had a PSP for like 2 seconds about 8 years ago and I have one of those Memory Cards... a 1 GB card... I cant find it right now, but my laptops card reader wont read it.. its too small. How will I be able to get the files onto the memory card...and will i be able to find legit ones easily... thanks... ill check this thread in the morning before I go get my new PSP.

If not, then go with an adapter as you'll have far more space at a fraction of the cost.

Just put the Eboot from the first link I gave you in PSP/GAME/UPDATE. The second link includes instructions for installing that. The PS1 ISOs have to be packaged into an Eboot for the PSP to read properly, but there's really easy to use tools like PSX2PSP. All Eboots will go into PSP/GAME/(Unique folder per Eboot). That's it. Installing CFW is really easy anymore, you don't even need a pandora battery.

After the PSP library, the gaming library with the greatest compatibility on the PSP may be the PS1. Some obscure games might not run properly, but most known PS1 games (including Japanese) will behave as if they're being run on their native hardware.

It reportedly works with pops 3.52. Confirmed by multiple sources.

Popstarter on PS2 works works pretty well too. Its compatibility isn't as good as PSP obviously, since it's older.

Well, emulator is emulator, whatever call it. Unless it is a hardware reconstruction on some chip it would be still an emulation, causing all these tons of popsloader versions. Virtual machine is, well, emulation, no?
