Changes for Wii-DOOM:

- applied more patches to OGG-support for DOOM 2
- applied more patches to OGG-support for the game states

CHANGES FOR WII-HERETIC:

- applied more patches to OGG-support for the game states

CHANGES FOR WII-HEXEN:

- applied more patches to OGG-support for the game states

CHANGES FOR WII-STRIFE:

- applied more patches to OGG-support for the game states
- fixed a bug that caused the game to crash when using the map selector above map 34 in the cheat menu

And one more important thing: if one of the games ever kicks you back to the homebrew channel, then there might be a file created in the game folder that is named "debug.txt". In that file there might be the error written.

Well the debug.txt shows this:
W_GetNumForName: d_e1m1 not found!

That was before R33 of course.

Calm down.
I'm calmed.
I just want to help out by reporting any issue I run into for debugging purposes hoping that such reports could help out later on.

R33 report:
WiiDoom working fine with ogg
WiiHeretic ditto (music also loops succesfully)
WiiHexen works fine with opl, as soon as i enable ogg i get a black screen on my CRT TV (RGB scart connected to Wii).
The game plays fine otherwise, i can hear it in the background. I reverted to R31 for Wiihexen and all is fine (i manually loop the music if/when it stops)

I also noticed that the music stops looping if you warp to any level using Cheats under Game Files.
If you play normally, they do loop fine.

Also, might be the SD, but with each music loop, the game freezes for like half a second and then unfreezes after the music restarts. It's just for a short time though.

nakata6790, do you have the OGG files for E1M8 and E3M1 for Doom?
For some odd reason, those two are not being detected, it plays the OPL version instead fir those two specific OGGs

yes, check your pms in a while, i'll send 'em to you :)
I only miss 4 files as far as doom 1 music goes

36b14bf165b3fdd3958ee83e4929063f051ada2f = doom1-music/d_e3m5.ogg
e77c3d42f2ea87f046074bd4e3ff1e535da1c653 = doom1-music/d_e3m6.ogg
3d85ec9c10b5ea46556899cfba701a556e27ca34 = doom1-music/d_e3m7.ogg
4d42e2ce1c1ff192500e7a08e72c85fe59741487 = doom1-music/d_e3m9.ogg

BTW nitr8 great work, keep rocking dude!

Those four are copied songs from E1M5, E1M6, E1M7 & E1M9.

You can check in YouTube just to be sure.
I did the same for the several 2-3 songs in Doom 2. Like the_da, the_da2, etc.

Thanks dude! :)

I can't get any of these versions to run. They all freeze on the black intro screen where we need to select iwad. The error is 'file list error! (ret =-1) and I have to hold down the power button to turn the wii off.

I don't have a classic controller, just original remote and official gamecube controller. I don't know whether that makes a difference.

All the resampled ogg files for Doom 1 and 2 are in the music directories. I edited the music cfg of Doom 2 (the one that had flac instead of ogg and saved it)

The respective folders for Doom, heretic, hexen etc. are in the /apps folder of my usb hard drive. The iwad folders contain their respective wads, e.g. Doom.wad, Doomu.wad.

I start the doom boot.dol from Wiixplorer.

What am I doing wrong?

I also noticed that the music stops looping if you warp to any level using Cheats under Game Files.
If you play normally, they do loop fine.

I had no problem with the music looping when using the DOOM IWAD and warping from map E1M1 to E1M2.

Also, might be the SD, but with each music loop, the game freezes for like half a second and then unfreezes after the music restarts. It's just for a short time though.

I'm aware of that but won't be able to fix it - sorry. :-(

I will check that.

So this is causing the freezing? I should just leave it as flac?

It doesn't matter what you change inside the music config file as it's being recreated once the game engine has been started.

When you get the error about file listing: after you started the game, did you select any device like USB or SD card inside the WAD selector menu?

nakata6790, can you by any chance get d_e3m1 running as OGG?
For some reason it's the only one that Wii-Doom is not recognizing for me. :/

You can check if it plays in Game Files -> Cheats and there ypu should play song 17, or you can simply go to E3M1 XD.

Oh and nitr8, don't worry! The minor freeze is not bad at all, I can play the highest difficulty just fine without that getting in the way. :)
Many, many thanks for your work on this ports!

The last time I tried I was stuck on that screen with no input working. I had an official gamecube controller plugged in and wii remote. I think it said something about pressing a key but nothing I pressed did anything so I held down the power button on the Wii. How do I access the menu?

Now that's no wonder. If you would have read the instructions about usage correctly, then you would have realized that you in fact need a Wii Classic Controller to play these games.

Anything else is not supported because of three things:

The Wii Classic Controller plays best for these games, IMO.
The Wiimote itself doesn't have that many buttons as are required for actually playing HEXEN and STRIFE with full experience and where you will need all buttons to actually bind all the key bindings to controller buttons at the same time.
I'm not going to buy controllers just to include their support, sorry.

I wrote something that could be used as additional aiming help for non-invincibility (non-god) mode next to the usage of the crosshair.

Problem is it might be used for disadvantages in multiplayer games of the Chocolate DOOM engine.

Specifically i'm talking about what is being called an "aimbot".

It works pretty good but i think i'm not going to release it without contacting the head of staff first.

Yes i tried mine and it works. I'll send you the file via pm right away

OK, so WII-HEXEN has been fixed.

On the other side: I had no problems with music looping when running the games off an USB hard drive and music playing normally whether using the music cheat or not.

The FAT library has been updated. Thanks.

I can confirm WiiHexen works perfectly. Thanks man!

Fair enough. Sorry I misread the brackets to mean that it 'plays best' with a classic controller, not that it was essential and nothing else would work. Oh well, I may buy one in the future. Thanks for your efforts in developing this port. Seems like we have to keep buying and buying peripherals for wii.

Finally figured out the problem with the E3M1 OGG file.
Turns out I needed that exact OGG in the music listed as d_e2m9, since that map uses the same song, but the readme doesn't mention you need that file at all, it completely skips that particular OGG going from d_e2m8 to d_e3m1

Once I made a copy of d_e3m1.ogg and renamed it as d_e2m9, I had no issues and the song now plays in all its OGG glory!

For those interested, I got a "thing" (a missing feature that has been removed from the so called "Hexen Retail Store Beta #3") right here:

As seen in the so called "Retail Store Beta #3", HEXEN did once contain a Thing ID with number 112 which represented a FLY.

NOTE: All ports of Hexen known to me are missing the code for a FLY. The sprites for it are DEFINITELY available inside the Retail Store Beta #3 main IWAD ("AFLYA0", "AFLYB0, "AFLYC0, "AFLYD0") as well as the sound file ("FLY2").

Background story: on the map number 13 ("SHADOW WOOD") there is an invalid thing id in the center of the hub exit room (sector 255). It looks like the coders at Raven Software once did plan to include this into the final game as the "Retail Store Beta #3" was a "close to the final" state of the game which unluckily found it's way into the world wide web.

The code was completely removed during the completion of the HEXEN Final Version. The only thing they missed to remove are these entries:

- "SFX_FLY_BUZZ" in the file "SOUNDS.H" of the original HEXEN source code release
- " { "FlyBuzz", "", 20, -1, NULL, 0, 2, 1 }," in the file "SOUNDS.C" of the original HEXEN source code release

After doing a request on some other site, a similar code has been written in C++, which I ported over to standard C. It finally works and I'm going to push it up online in a few hours.

For the whole thing i mentioned above, I got some proof here for those interested:

The code required for this to work is not the one Raven used at that time it just behaves like the one they used once.
