I have a N3DS with sysnand 9.0 and want to play online with a retail cartridge. Will it be possible (with KARL3DS) to set up emunand, download the latest update from the eshop for the retail cartridge and play (and go online) with it in sysnand?

Sorry if it is a dumb question, don't really know much about this stuff.

yes, when karl3ds is released, it should work.
but you will have to do some junk to get the update working on sysnand. just play online on the emunand, because that will be easier for you - unless you move the ticket for the update over to your sysnand

Ok, thanks for your quick reply! I was thinking about getting a gateway for that but i quess with KARL3DS i don't need it anymore. :-)

well, karl3ds won't let you load roms, but for what you said you want to do, it is good :)

huh well i guess most people can't even test out the guide i shared to get eshop working once you region change because most people don't know how to do it.
maybe region changing would be better to talk about my PoC region changing thread because there is already all the information there on how to do it.
where is that guide, never saw that :P

and for the KARL team:
Awesome job and a lot of progress, it's good to see some "developers" creating something and also planning on releasing it ;)

I'm assuming its still not noob-friendly? It must be a chore to switch regions this way.

well, until someone does a bit of work, yes, there will not be a nice 1 magic tool to do it.
although you don't even need to dump your nand if you are on 4.5 (although for that, i did not release a little secureinfo_a dumper/injector i made, it is not very stable so it makes people annoyed having to run it like 8 times)

I dunno if we mentioned it before, but certain homebrew apps made with a certain lua player crash out to a black screen at the moment. Even with all services available to everything. Can anyone confirm that Big Red Menu and CHMM blackscreen on Gateway's CFW? I just want to be sure it's not on us. (*nudges Rinnegatamante too*)

Gateway's devs are pretty talented, but they also more than likely buy all their exploits. That pretty much puts us on the same playing field, except they probably have more people working on their stuff.

I think you guys are on a different playing field. You have some pretty talented guys in your group, you actually respond (even if it is people repeating the same stuff that you have said you aren't going to support from the get go) and you guys are quick to react to changes, publicly and privately I am guessing.

I do hope you achieve your goals, with something like this that takes a fair bit of dedication, motivation and interest can be the thing between advancing and stagnating. From what you guys have shown so far, it looks like you have enough people to keep this project ticking along.

Having no release date is probably one of the best things a dev could ask for (that and good funding and a great team). As soon as you have a deadline of any type (including your own internal milestones) it really puts pressure on everything, certain things can get dropped in favour of speed of release and if you add money to the equation well, you know how that ends up ;)

I actually wouldn't be surprised if Gateway has already contacted one of you in some shape or form. I have a feeling that some of this stuff is ground both teams have encountered and also have covered at some point.

I really have no expectations for KARL3DS other than being happy to drop in and read through your progress. You have the gift of a great bunch of guys working on this and again I can't say how important it is that you have no release date. When that day does come though, I have CN in hand, an AUS N3DS and a bunch of free time.

Keep up the great work :)

About region change: I'm perfectly happy if you manage to let us play retails from different regions. The e-shop thing is not that necessary imo.

I think they found themselves the browser exploit.
It's why this exploit is not on 3dbrew's list of 3DS flaws : they don't want to credit a piracy company.

So basically, after region change we can't use the NNID on the new region again, but can create a new one for it even if the serial number of the donor 3DS still has that old NNID linked to it (meaning that a NNID once registered to eg. EUR console can only be used on EUR consoles). Am I getting it right?

Aren't NNID's locked by region?

Eeeee my JP copy of Cubic Ninja shipped out today. Maybe if the fates conspire, I'll get it and KARL will release on the same day! I'm so freaking excited to finally play Soul Hackers. I've only been anticipating it for 20 years... Stupid Atlus.

Who should I talk to if I want to join development, and are there any requirements for that?

I have some ideas in mind which will be better executed in a CFW, and to be honest I'd rather join forces with an existing project than go alone. The 3DS scene is already enough of a mess with all the different ways to run homebrew. Don't really want to see tons of different CFW projects with different features for each, requiring you to switch between firmwares depending on what you want to do.

yeah im not sure they really want more members, roxas75 was turned down iirc, but i would imagine staplebutter could help out quite a bit on the homebrew side of thing
