Mod please delete this thread! SaveDataFiler is working fine on Gateway 3.1.0 -- it was something I was doing

Just popping in to say that this seems to be a Gateway 3.1 specific issue, testing it on my N3DS it reads game carts and my eShop games just fine. Even managed to save edit my Smash save. It's worth noting that if you try to export and then import saves from one 3DS to the other, the best plan of action is to get a blank save file exported for each game you want to import from, and then export all the save files you want to import on your system with completed saves. From there manually copy each of the actual content files into each exported save on your N3DS. Then make sure to delete the secure value from games like Smash, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, etc, and import.

That makes sense. You have to export a save of the game so you have something to replace. The files generated on the old 3DS (like the dat files and export.log files) aren't compatible with the n3DS. So you have to regenerate them on the n3DS. Then you'll be ready to replace the contents of the save folder. That's what I understand from shinyquagsire's post.

lol scared me for a second. SaveDataFiler not working on the n3DS would have been a deal breaker for me as I have Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and many other games I will need to do save swapping on.

EDIT:

Another thing. Does Gateway 3.1 on the n3DS use the new save keys for retail roms while in Gateway mode? I'm curious about that. I don't think it does on the old 3DS. (classic mode does use the new keys if booted from a sysnand version that supports it and all n3DSes have a version that will use the new save keys)

If not, Gateway will really need to work on fixing the broken save encryption in Gateway mode as it will become a bigger problem on the n3DS when users want to convert their retail games into roms for the gateway card. The saves once extracted from the cartridge will not work because gateway mode does not use the correct encryption.

Here's the problem, it's showing GOOD saves that I just created with the game as corrupted in SavaDataFiler, so I can't even export a blank value to replace the data in

That's... quite odd. They probably screwed up the N3DS save keys somehow. Definitely a GW 3.1 specific issue in that case if you haven't even tampered with the saves and they're showing as invalid in SDF.

I would say no because the N3DS read my old saves files fine and it seems logical to keep compatibility.

And I assume Classic Mode use the newer keys, as sysnand is 9.0+ for most users.

The problem you are talking about always existed and will probably always exist.

Existing users can export their saves using SDF prior to updating to a new Gateway release. (and if you don't want to do that, you're lazy and that's your fault. :P )

This issue impacts new users more then existing ones and one would think Gateway would prioritize making new users able to use it better as they need a reason to keep new people buying their product. ;)

Quick question, since the TCs question was answered: Can I take the save off my MH4 retail game and put it in my Gateway cia of it with the use of this save data filer?

No, just after restore there is no save data in game (I did it in the past, in the same way on my o3ds and saves were working after restore). Of course I used the same cia for install on n3ds.

You should try making a new game on the N3DS then exporting it, then copying just the save data out of the old folder (from regular 3DS) into the new one and importing it. Don't overwrite the new log file or system files that the N3DS generates in the exported save.

I found workaround.
I remembered that Senran Kagura has an option to export saves to SD and I did it a few days ago, so I just loaded saved data from SD on n3ds.
And thanks God I did a system transfer, so I just copied save from old RF4 folder (SD backup) to new SD, and it is working. My 25h of game is restored.

I am having an issue with savedatafiler as well, keep in mind I am a new Gateway owner so this could just be me doing something wrong.
When I attempt to run savedatafiler in Gateway mode I get the error message "An error has occurred." and I am forced to shut down. If I try it in classic mode, it says "This software failed to launch.".
I installed 40+ CIAs and all of them work except savedatafiler and playcoinsetter. Did I miss something somewhere?

GW 3.1.0, N3DS MH4U edition, 9.2 sysnand, 9.5 emunand

edit: It was the cia, tried a different version and it works.

somehow i cant install the savedatafiler.cia. it always tells me invalid cia with the titlemanager app. all other cia i used until now worked, tried different versions also. im at a loss...i wanted to use my .sav files from the normal gw usage and use it with my new .cia game versions..is there a tutorial?
