Well, I finally think I can release Wave (at least a first release), a game that I have been working on for many months on and off.

So what is it?

What is Wave?

Wave is a game of avoiding the incoming squares that are thrown at you from the right of the screen. Which can been seen below.

So how do you dodge them, well your wave (below left) can be made to go slower (below right) by pressing space this allows you, with correct timing to move up and down the screen (a bit lower)

And so you avoid the incoming squares using this.

Unfortunately there is a bar at the top which limits how long you can use this power for, so use it sparingly. It does generate over time.

Features
  • 60 frames per second.
  • Random levels.
  • Daily challenge with global daily highscores.
  • Annoying music.
The Menu

This game can be played with only one button when you have passed the initial screen (name and enter). That button is space, try holding space in the menu. Alternately, you can use arrow keys and enter to navigate the menu.

Download

The download is a nice, handy zip file, just extract everything and run. Download is HERE (Revision 2).
Anyway, enjoy!
The download link automatically updates (I love copy).

Changelog
Revision 2:
* Added ability to replay the daily challenge -> only stores best score.

Revision 1:
* New UUID system for names.
* Ability to change name.
* Probably some bug fixes.

Initial release:

You finally released it officially :)
I think the version you gave me didn't have the power bar.

Did you made any progress on the 3DS homebrew version?

The 3Ds homebrew has not been worked on for ages because I could not work out why the screen flickered and because I had and have no cubic ninja, I couldn't and can't test it on a system. Additionally, Rune Factory came out in Europe and so I upgraded to buy it. All testing had to be done in an emulator (which was run on wine on ubuntu) and yeah...
The current state is odd. I can't get my head around small dimensions and so it moves too fast.

So I can't get this to run on Win7 Ultimate x64 it asks for firewall permissions then a file dialog opens i've tried the exe and the dx9 dll nothing works, almost seems viral to me

Edit: Not viral IDM screwed my download up

I hope it will become easier (better graphic libraries, etc.) and you can complete it on 3DS one day.
you could try to port it with lua if you know that language.

maybe someone will help and fix the speed issue. (If one day I have time, I'll look at it)

Thanks, and good luck

edit:
Last time he made a build, it worked fine on WinXP, and didn't get any firewall notification.
I didn't test his release from this thread.

It's made in game maker. It does do some networking but that shouldn't affect boot.
Actually, how big is the zip file? It should be around 18.1mb.

Edit: About the 2mb
Copy began uploading the zip part way through compile and so contained partial compiled data for the first 5 to 10 minutes of this thread as I realised after 2 minutes and then had to re upload.
Really sorry, it is fixed now!

it boots in 2 seconds now yeah it was IDM it only gave me a 2.10MB zip the first time around, it was missing data.bin which is why the file dialog popped up

I played 4 times :) made it to 11 seconds it's actually pretty fun, I like the 16-bit Electronica you put in the game, is there any chance for a DS port or even a Wii port?

As said a 3DS port was in the making, I never thought of Wii though, should try that out...

Anyway, my best is 151 seconds.

I sadly don't own a 3DS which is why I said DS port but yeah I could see a Wii port of this being a great casual game to play.

do you have any plans for new features? like custom music or backgrounds

Current plans are unlockable music and skins, multiplayer (I have a fun idea for this...) and a replay "area" for the very highest scores.

I'll probably try this once I reset my computer. If I put anything else on it, I bet the computer will supernova when I open anything.

Sounds like you've thought long and hard about the features you want to include. A suggestion if I may I suggest Leaderboards with system categories once you get different ports out there Each port should have it's own table but while being able to view each table from any port say for example PC can see 3DS leaderBoards and vice-versa

Defiantly.
I'm looking at the highscores and I'm the only one on there... Please take the daily challenge...
