On second thought... maybe the ones I was looking at were new. I assumed they were used because I was thinking the price was too cheap and the place I was at deals with new and used stuff (and they have very interesting special editions of stuff... like a gold Punchout cartridge... (can't recall if that was Famicom or GB Advance though...)

Famicom, there's no GBA entry in the series.

nintendo probably COULD check the region via serial number, but i don't think they do...
when you run a game, it is not checked against your serial number, it is checked against your 'region value'.
no, i doubt the system transfer would work, because it would say you are on the wrong region etc

Be prepared for the tsunami of incidents happening that will come your way with this method....I feel a dark urge of noobness that will happen with this release.

cearp
It's simple:
Just write a HUGE text stating if you don't fell ready for doing this, don't do it! And, in case you do, if it goes wrong, don't come complaining because I (you cearp) had warned you! :P
Also, if someone will try this on sysNAND, it's imperative that this person have the NAND HW Mod.

...as it was already stated before, but you know, it's never enough!

Cheers!

No, i did my best to get it working. Out of pure luck it worked once, but i can't repeat that and ends with 005-5602 error :/

I wasn't sure how far you guys got with this portion, so I figured I'd throw something in (probably a stupid suggestion).

I'm not sure what methods you're testing as far as changing the region flags, but have you tried making a brand-new NNID with said method?

This error message usually appears when the region of your 3DS doesn't match the region that the NNID was created with (during normal use that is) aka you create an NNID in the USA and then change your DS region to Canada.

P.S: I imported a Japanese N3DS with a few faceplates and cannot wait for the day I can do a system transfer from my American 2DS to it :D

I've created my nnid for usa and had trouble the first time because i entered ny as second, it somehow worked removing ny the first time.

After testing it out i re-created all my work to test if everyone can repeat my steps, but it didnt work. After messing some time with it,
'Internet' was gray and not green and i received 005-5602. I called yesterday Nintendo support and told them i'm having trouble
using eShop, the operator was very friendly and told me that my linked console is not for usa usage and should check my region.

The process changing region is easy for me, but requires a donor because of rsa checks and knowledge not to mess everything up.

I don't know if online play works for JP/iQUE/TWN with swapped region or will result in bann! Someone i know from different board
owns JP 3DS, lives in EUR, and has trouble playing non JP roms online and receives 003-0399. Switching region removes Internet
agreement and you have to accept them again. If your Firmware doesnt offer the region in your profile, you receive the same
answer i got from the operator.

Currently i'm not banned, original region works fine and eShop still works.

1. swapping region will ONLY work without eshop
2. You might need to patch every game to region free IF online gaming is possible

At the moment, i'm not sure if its good to offer a 'How to switch region' as it might end up in banns,
bricks and more trouble if ppl try to fidle with eShop like it happened for sony and ps3. Taking this
in consideration, i don't want to give support for it.

The only thing i can say, part of the information is already out there without me or cearp.

I'm just curious, but do you think it matters if the donor is a different kind of 3DS entirely? I'd imagine you'd be able to substitute in a 2DS ID for a US emuNAND on a normal 3DS or XL, but do you think it would work between the New 3DS and normal 3DS?

It's like windows, everything is similar to the previous system with changes.

The biggest barrier is logged serials for each device (region/kind of 3ds and so on...).

That should be better than nothing. What exactly was the way he did it?

i think i have it saved on my computer, i'll find it later and share it when i make a guide
Sounds cool, can't wait for the guide.

I have a semi-broken 3DS (A button usually doesn't register) for which I wouldn't really care if it got banned, so I can use it to try stuff out with the eshop.

I did not read through all 10 pages of this but, were the region changing files already released or something?
nope, but its sounds like cearp is planning to do a tutorial soon.....not sure if its going to include everything you need or if some stuff will have to be sourced for yourself :P

I hate to be "that guy", but is the guide still on its way? I think a lot of us are really excited for this, even with the eShop limitation.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite
