Hey Guys,

I wanted to open a thread for the topic "CFW on Downgraded SysNAND, will it work?".
We all know, there's a thread about (4.x only) CIA CFW Complete Guide.
I want to know, if it's possible to install the CIA CFW on SysNAND (Downgraded with Gateway Exploit).
If it's possible, we should able to install .cia-Files on the System.

Is there anyone who tried this already?
I Downgraded my 3DS XL (Blue) - 9.2.0-20E to 4.5.0-8E successfully.
Before I did this, I made a Nand-Backup, BUT I don't have a HARD-Mod right now (can do this on monday If I want to).

Is there someone who want to try this?
It would be a big Milestone :)

Well seeing as the leaked CFW doesn't rely on gateway at all there's really no reason you can't just treat your console like it was already on 4.5 or whatever and just follow the numerous guides to installing it with that CFW. :)

Curious about this as well since no gateway but I have another semi related question. After you downgrade and install CFW is it possible to go back to the previous firmware you were on with everything on your 3ds in tact? I'm talking about eshop games, activity log etc etc

Would you be able to switch between the two firmwares whenever you wanted?

You sound very confident try it yourself record the process and up the video with a short description then.

You can restore your NAND-Backup :) Press L while selecting NAND-Backup in Gateway Exploit

But at the moment, for users without Gateway, you only have SysNAND and no EmuNAND. So You can possibly switch by backup and restore your NANDs (one with CFW 4.5 and one with OFW 9.2)

Well for all intents and purposes once downgraded your console will act and run like it should on that firmware.

And i am a little confident when it comes to this stuff because I've upgraded and downgraded my 3ds a bunch of times and used the leaked CFW a fair bit even though i have gateway.

Had no issues with it except that it can take a few tries to actually get it to boot into its emunand.

And the first thing i did with the gateway DOWNGRADE tool was.... UPGRADE, then downgrade with it afterwards. My 3ds is still alive. :)

What bothers me more is the question, if you could possibly write a permanent CFW to your SysNAND.
Flashing the SysNAND is proven to be no problem at all. I just think, Gateway has gone farther to secure that only their gateway.dg files are supported with the downgrade mechanism.

We're able to downgrade the Firmware already.
If we're on 4.5 after Downgrade, we need to use this Guide: (4.x only) CIA CFW Complete Guide
We should be able to install the DevMenu to our downgraded SysNAND with this Guide.
I would try it by myself but right now, I don't have my 3DS Hardmodded and I don't own a Gateway.
After downgrade, what should we do? In the Guide, there is:

5. If you have not already done so, boot the Gateway Launcher and select "Format Emunand". Be careful, as this will erase all the files on your SD card.

Because we're try to do this without Gateway and EmuNAND, should we ignore this step or what?

No you still do that. It runs emunand just like gateway and the other CFW (NTR or something) does.

You have to do that so it creates the emunand partition on the sd card.

Then you inject the backup you have into that partition with the hex editor further down the steps.

Gateway card IS NOT needed, only their launcher.dat to setup emunand then you use the launcher.dat in the files downloaded from the CFW thread.

Isn't "Format EmuNAND" an option on the Gateway web exploit (3.0)? Not sure if it works without the card though

Could you explain it more?
How can I run emuNAND without a Gateway Card?

I actually just tried this, I get the 3DS "An error has occurred." screen when I try to launch the Gateway exploit with the CFW launcher.dat on the SD card. Have gotten the GW exploit/launcher.dat to work before by clearing the browser cache.

Maybe the CFW launcher.dat needs to be updated to work with the new Gateway browser exploit?

This is possible.
Right now, I'm not at this step but I think I'll have the same problem.
Possibly you could Install the ROP MultiLoader to the DS Profile and try it with this (you need a DS Flashcard for this).

Yeah, unfortunately the only DS flashcard I have is an old Acekard2 that has been blocked on the 3DS. I saw there was a way to get some DS flashcards working on the 3DS but that requires that you already have a way to install CIA files. I still think this method has potential without any Gateway or DS cards though.

Gw is not dumb. If they found a way to block the CFW, they did. The downgrade pack is 120ish MBs, so they might have chosen specifically what to downgrade to allow for GW only. If I was them I'd have searched for a way to disallow the CFW
