In many unproffesional businesses the marketing and operations departments have completely different goals and directives. I have been there. Sales manager: sell, sell, sell no matter what the cost even if you have to sleep with the customer. I had a boss once tell me he didn't expect me to actually do it, but pretend it was a possibility. Operations is all about product integrity at all costs.
Usually marketing wins and I expect nothing less from an "illegitiment" enterprise. All those emails came from sales. They did their job. This is not a failure of the "Gateway Team", the blame lies at the very top for creating the environment for this to happen.
