Hacking Gateway 3DS working on the New Nintendo 3DS.

I'm pretty sure .cia repack converty programmy thingys (i apologize for the lack of technical terms) that I've read about or seen in action have an option for region free.

It's only relevant if you use CFWs. Considering this is a Gateway thread, I think it's safe to assume we'll be using Gateway, not CFW.

They said they were aiming for a Christmas release but then the server hacks pushed them back by a few days.

How can their website being "hacked" push this back. Talk about lame excuses.

Guys I will personally be surprised if we see this update within a week with excuses such as this one.

nope pretty sure i read that you need to convert cia files to region free if they are out of region in gateway too.......but now im doubting myself ....maybe you dont, but there no harm in doing so while you build them anyway

Couple of questions, bear with me.
1) If you have a region-free .3ds, does it automatically become a region free .cia when you convert?
2) Is there a way to make any .cia region-free?
3) Is there an advantage to trimming roms before converting them to .cias?
4) If you want all of your games in .cia format, do you no longer need the red GW card to boot them up once they've been installed?

Cia is more difficult to work with, look up the tutorials.
1. The roms are not region free, gateway takes care of that. (my understanding)
2. Likely, some games have problems being converted to cia YMMV
3. I don't know, but trimming roms can create problems, storage is relatively cheap.
4. do not need the red card as long as you stay in gateway mode. If you exit you need it to get back in. similar to a tethered jailbreak with an iPhone.

Thanks for the responses. Another quick question: does it make a difference whether you create your own .cia vs downloading someone else's .cia? Perhaps one is more likely to be banned?
Edit: I know right now there aren't any cases of someone getting banned for downloading another person's cia, but I'm talking about detectability or something of that nature.

I'm just bored waiting/expecting a New Years release. playing sonic adventure 2 battle (props to VinsCool for convincing me on Nintendon't) feels good to be out of prison

well nobody really knows, but i would imagine playing games as cia files that arent even available in the eshop would be pretty obvious, out of region games too, and things like dev menu and homebrew etc.....but i dont think nintendo seem to care all that much, lets face it as long as people arent cheating, more people online probably just improves legit users experience too as there is more people to play with

I have not seen reports of banned cias. As long as you are not concerned with the black helicopters with the big N on the side coming to get you, I don't think it makes a difference.

Sadly! It's my last real free day. But mostly things are happening at nights there, but i guess new year releasing is what everybody is guessing.
