So, I finally got my new3ds, and I am currently anticipating the gateway 9.2 update. I was wondering if it is safe to turn on wifi, since I've heard the n3ds accepts updates automatically. Also, as I don't speak japanese, is it any different from the US original 3ds's request for update? Like, are the buttons for yes and no switched or anything weird like that?
I just really don't wanna mess anything up.
Firmware it came with: 9.1 J

Every 3DS model "accepts updates automatically".

Good question. The buttons aren't switched to my knowledge (I know this occurs with Sony consoles)

Well, I knew that they automatically download them and whatnot, but what I meant was, someone told me they automatically update, as soon as they download the update. And as for buttons, I meant when it asks yes or no for the update, since some JP games I've played have yes and no swapped from the US versions.

There's hope for a Xenosaga port.

はい = yes
いいえ = no

That should be enough.

Would have been a lot easier if you got the AUS New3DS.

Even though Gateway is region-free? And you can install JP DLC and Updates using devmenu?

Dlc and updates are supported through devmenu? Shit. Well, no matter. I've been needing a compelling reason to learn japanese anyway, so, no big deal to me.

Yeah, devmenu can install DLC and Game Updates from all regions. A compelling reason? Well, if you're dedicated to learning Japanese, then go ahead. You'll need to put some time and effort to study it.

Why on earth would you want to turn wifi on if you can't go online or use eshop? You are just asking for trouble.

Well, I wanted to check out the browser and stuff, and was hoping I could access flipnote world... Web was filtered of course, and flipnote mustve needed me to have a nnid.

The "Software-Switch" is annoying, i like Hardware Buttons.

This pushes me staying away from eshop, blacklisting update server in router works like a charm.
