without a serial number, pointless post.New 3DS LL (Metallic Black), Version 8.1.0J.
Nippon Yasan

That serial is useless. All we can construe from that is that one of the first 1,000,000 units with a number ending in forty-six had 8.1.0. The first four numbers are really needed to get anything useful. :|My White New Nintendo 3DS came from Nippon-Yasan today.
8.1 firmware.......YJM10****469
Same for that serial.New 3DS LL (Metallic Black), QJF10xxxx Version 8.1.0J.

longer you leave it, the smaller chance you will have.I'm wondering, if I order a New 3DS LL on nippon yasan this week-end, is there a way I can be SURE it won't be on the 9.3.0 firmware before ordering it ?
Nobody has gotten one with that FW yet, so I wouldn't worry. It is more likely you would get a 8.1 than a 9.3.I'm wondering, if I order a New 3DS LL on nippon yasan this week-end, is there a way I can be SURE it won't be on the 9.3.0 firmware before ordering it ?
Or maybe I can just order the Super Smash Bros edition, it's almost sure I'd get a 8.1 since it's limited edition.
nope, nothing yet.Does no game come with 9.x firmware update? Not even ORAS?
i doubt any stores will be getting fresh 9.3/9.4 stock for a good few weeks yet at least, and tbh i would imagine they have probably manufactured a large majority of the consoles already......as i would imagine it works if the factory would just be used to produce say "X" amount of Japanese consoles, then they switch over to programming X amount with the EU FW, ship the first batch to Australia(say maybe like 15-20% of the total) , then continue production ready for the rest of europe release, then produce the US shipment, then the smaller regions like Taiwan etc, then finally switch back to producing the second run of Japanese consoles......so i would imagine the full europe release would be the most likely version to have at least some 9.0-9.2 consoles, then US would be less likely and i imagine the smaller desperate regions will most likely be produced last.....just depends on how far along they where on the production run before 9.3 would of been pushed for programmingif those numbers are really interpreted as RRRXXXXXXXX Y where Y is part of the unique serial number.. then it would mean 4mil N3DS have been produced. Sales projections for japan at the end of this year are 1.4mil units... I highly doubt they've really shipped 4mil units...
Leaving out that Y part at the end makes the amount of new 3ds pre-9.0 firmware around 400.000, which seems reasonable... looking at the sales numbers, approx 45~460000 units have been sold to date. this is in line with the serials we are seeing (10460000+) however, it would also mean both models would have to share the same range of serial number, since roughly 1/3 of all units sold is a regular n3ds, and there would be no way to get serials this high up otherwise.
luckily, we can calculate how many weeks it would take at the current rate for most of the 8.1 models to be sold through. 400.000 units at 48.000 per week means it would take 8.3 weeks to sell almost all of those. We are currently in week 8... so every week you wait from here on out should drastically up your odds of receiving a 9.0 unit. I would be confident to say that if you order from Nippon-yasan that your odds of getting a 9.0 unit are 99%, since at this point it's all about which stores sell enough to get fresh shipments, and they certainly seem to move plenty.
this is all calculated science, based on reported numbers by Nintendo itself and Famitsu, however. So don't sue me if it doesn't work out in the real world.
Actually this kind of sucks to me since i'm picking one up at retail in japan myself (no way for me to order now since I won't be here starting next weekend) and there is no way for me to tell if a particular store is selling through to customers enough to have fresh shipments... >_> I guess Akihabara will be my best bet.
For everybody else... Order at Nippon-Yaman for your J units, or get an AUS one and you're almost guaranteed to be golden if my quick and dirty math wasn't too far off
Just got my N3DS LL Metallic Blue. It's come with fw 9.1.0-20J.
My friend's relative bought this for me in Japan last weekend. I'm not sure if they bought it at Amazon or at retail store though.
