I just chuckle every time some accuses a flashcart manufacturer as "Greedy" or "Dodgy".

Seriously, you buy the product and save $300 in game costs. What is their greedy profit? Maybe $30?

This just needs to stop.

EDIT: now I need to add "scummy" to the list.

Are you advocating piracy on the temp? :P

Nevertheless, I completely agree with your point haha.

Whatever the case, Gateway has till the 22 of December to release the update. At that time the (new blue) Sky3DS can be ordered from my preferred reseller. So they have 11 days for the new release or lose customer.

I think they've had the exploit for a while, and because they had total control they sat on it to let the updates keep rolling out from Nintendo and keep checking to see if it still works, which it may or may not does. If it wasn't for scummy sky3ds we probably still wouldn't know about it until the N3DS released worldwide I'd say, that's more consoles + more viable firmwares = profit. But sky 3ds forced their hand by releasing a shoddy product with terrible customer support (even though it does work I must state, for now atleast). They've probably had the exploit since 8.x and who knows maybe they just said don't upgrade to 9.3 to make Nintendo think it was blocked? Woke up with my tin hat on today.

As I tried to explain in the other thread. It seems like the game code needs patching to bypass the 10 game(save) limits.
This is likely detectable and could be used to block the card in newer firmwares.
Maybe the other card with the limit was more like an original cartridge and more difficult to detect.
It's all speculation, but so are the rumours that the limit was there because they are greedy.

i suppose its all kinda off topic anyway....sky3ds in my eyes come across as a fly by night team who just wanted to capitalize on it while it lasted.....can't really blame them im sure 70% of people in their shoes would do the same or at least something similar if there is a good chance your cash cow will dry up.....gateway also have the brick code stuff also dodgy......but what do we all expect its the flashcard buisness, its never really populated by nice guys

all you can really do is think "what "bad" guy offers me the most for my money"

I originally thought this, but stopped thinking so after reading some convincing post somewhere. My bad.
It is certainly possible.

But I do think they are greedy (just read that email response where they bitched and lied about Gateway), but that's not really a problem. User gets flashcard, team gets monies. Win-win.
Whether the limit had anything to do with the greed is the problem - it can't really be proven, just as you say.

Stay there for now. We will confirm later if 9.3 is safe, otherwise we will
offer something for 8.

Just received an answer from Gateway.

Maybe future will tell, but let's hope not.
If the first gen limited Sky3ds still work on firmware XX, and the newer ones don't, we will know.

Awesome. This perfectly answers for much of the misguided folk floating around the forums. ;)

Edit: Could you also ask if they could just hurry up with 9.0-9.2 support? I'm kinda dying over
What's the rush, 4.5 works perfectly fine haha (insert big smirk here)

Hahaha what are you trying to say? I love my 4.4 3DS XL, but I got a new, shiny N3DS, and I have fallen in love with Super-Stable 3D. ;)

I'm not really sure what that actually entails. They can't say that it will be out in December, but it will 'not be months'. So, it will be out before the 11th of February... that's reassuring :P

Indeed.

Thankfully their answers are being more "human" :)

Can't wait for 9.x support, please hurry :( ...

Edit: Seems like until they have a definite answer for 9.3, they wont announce support for 8.1 right now, and later update it :)

F*ck yeah Gateway!

Aww, I don't have one yet, I was trying to pass time before the update with a bit of banter but it has backfired on me :( (Insert grumble here)

And after all the emails and all the support GW is offering us people are still buying a Sky3ds??
I mean com on! If I had the money I would buy myself another GW just because they deserve the money!!!

Sky3DS works right now, at this very minute. So I guess some people are just that impatient.

Not that I'm not impatient; I totally am. ^_^ But I know it will all be worth it in the end.

My immediate thought was "not months, years".
Haha I smiled 'cause it was proof of a direct response to the email, rather than just a generic response.

And I'm inclined to agree with you on that one.
