While thats a possibility, it has been said that people think she accidentally pressed one of the trigger buttons which skipped over to the Mii Maker. I do think that it is still possible though, and if that was the case, we wouldn't need our blue cards, like it seems is going to be the case. I was thinking they (at least for now) may have used a modified ROP with NinjHax.
But wouldn't that necessitate having Cubic Ninja to run Gateway?

i think we need gateway "alpha"...this is a new beginning of sorts after all........and you know pokemon omega and alpha

But wouldn't that necessitate having Cubic Ninja to run Gateway?

Yea, but whats stopping the devs using that for finding other exploits? Or for a super far fetched idea, Gateway red card could emulate cubic ninja 1:1 (like sky3ds), then you run the NinjHax exploit on that and instead of using the usual exploit, it would be Gateways version, booting you into Gateway mode.

I think you're right with it being super far-fetched :P but it is interesting to consider.
For the red card to be able to do that, I'd imagine new hardware is necessary; Gateway will not issue new hardware, however.

I know what Gateway could issue right about now.

How about a FRIGGIN' UPDATE? UH? WHO'S WITH ME!?

In all seriousness, I suspect their exploit has something to do with themes.

Normally if you insert a game, the cursor (or marker) jumps right to the game (just tested it out).
I think we still need some sort of blue card to install the gateway data. The exploit may be different now.

Yea, thats a good point. But still an interesting thought nonetheless. That would be a neat thing to experiment with, should have bought both cards. :p

If they release another video, and the video contains them putting in the red card, then we should have our answer of what happened there for sure.

I'm fairly certain she(he?) just pressed the new ZR trigger. I just tried it out on my N3DS XL, and it does just that; the cursor thingo moves to the right by 3 spaces, just like in the video.

If I insert the Gateway into my 4.4 3DS XL, the cursor doesn't move at all until I select a game from the multirom menu. Only when I select the game from the multirom menu does the cursor thingo jump to the cartridge icon.

Or maybe I'm just misunderstanding your post. :P

Whys that? Are themes stored on the SD card?

Somewhat, I think. If you have a theme or two (or whatever) and check your SD card, you'll notice the 3DS has stored some themes information there (I'm not sure exactly what it is as I haven't bothered to check it in Windows) but, it's not farfetched to think that Gateway will tell you to place some sort of theme data on the SD card that when launched/go to a specific menu/whatever, brings up another exploit.

It's a possibility, not a certainty though.

I agree, the new themes thing seems like it is related.

  • Exploit apparently only works on 9.X
  • Themes have data on the SD card
  • Themes are NEW (therefore more chance for an oversight in that department)
  • Themes change the system menu (permiss1ons?)
It's kinda reminding me of the ol' Bannerbomb magic. It's just a hunch but it's still a hunch. :yaynds:

If I insert the Gateway into my 4.5 3DS XL, the cursor doesn't move at all until I select a game from the multirom menu. Only when I select the game from the multirom menu does the cursor thingo jump to the cartridge icon.

oh, good point! I've just tested it too and you are right. And from the hand and finger position where s/he was holding the N3DS it is possible ^^
dang it, so maybe no exploit through Mii Maker ^^"

Thats the best speculation I've heard in a long time. This may be why we NEED to be on the 9.x firmware, since themes are not on anything below. On top of that, that may also be how they will get past the blue card issue without the need of extra hardware. You sir may have just cracked the code.

the themes are uniquely encrypted to a per 3ds key.....so i doubt its themes.....idk its going to eithe have to be something thats no per device encrypted like saves etc, or a non decrypted item that can load on the 3ds.....like a browser exploit.....guess we will find out *soon* enough

mind telling me the base screen protector you'll use? like maybe an xl one trimmed unless there's a perfect size out there for 2ds top screen for the bottom screen maybe?

i already have some screen protectors for XL so i'm going to carefully resize those to fit the N3DS screens. :)

Yup. It'd also go with, as you said, the necessity to metion that this update runs NATIVELY on 9.x. If it's native to 9.x, I'm pretty darn sure the loophole exists within this specific firmware only.

This would also fly by past the Blue Card as you mentioned.

It isn't all me though, I've been in private conversations with KidIce about this subject and he should be having some speculation-trophy too :P

Really now? Hmm.. That's interesting.
