Just wondering is there any difference or advantage to playing GBA games on the 3DS's Virtual Console versus playing the same GBA games (and more not available on the Virtual Console) via the DSTwo's TempGBA emulator?

I know the DSTwo's TempGBA emulator is not perfect however there's a lot more 100% compatible GBA games on the DSTwo than the 3DS's Virtual Console.

Just asking to know if it's worth paying the extra money for a DSTwo over a R4i Gold for the TempGBA emulator on the DSTwo and for DS(i) games.

GBA emulation on the VC is very poor for injected games. The Ambassador games work great on the other hand. TempGBA will emulate GBA much better.

The Ambassador GBA games aren't being emulated on the 3DS VC emulator. It's actually being simulated in DS mode. If GBA games can be played on the 3DS VC emulator, then we should have had GBA games in the 3DS eShop a while back.

I would always pick the GBA VC, it has neat effects that emulate playing on the original console that TempGBA doesn't have. It takes advantage of the higher resolution of the 3DS, this means a larger image + a sharper upscale filter. In TempGBA you're stuck in the original resolution or the standard upscaled DS mode and the filter used in DS mode is not as sharp as the one in GBA VC.

That's the display but regarding performance, GBA VC is always fullspeed, TempGBA needs frame skipping for most games.

It's only ten games vs. the entire library so that kinda makes it unfair.

Or maybe I should hold out and wait for a GBA emulator via Ninjhax, do yo guys think they'll eventually make a GBA emulator that's better than the one on the DSTwo?

yeah i guess so. SNES emulator (BlargSNES) is already better than DSTwo imho even though it supports less games. GBA emulation will get there too.

Actual VC GBA games are much better in my experience. And since most of the system is already there, the only issue is that launching GBA/DS/DSi games in emuNAND mode is impossible. Once it becomes possible to run modded GBA VC games, it should run almost everything as it just puts the 3DS into GBA hardware mode, like for DS titles. At least that's my understanding from the whole thing.

Guess I'll just wait patiently for more GBA games to come out on the 3DS's Virtual Console the new upscale filter does sound nice and I'm guessing with the New 3DS's upgraded hardware Nintendo may be able to bring harder to emulate games like Metroid Zero Mission and Gold Sun: The Lost Age to the 3DS's Virtual Console albeit they'll probably have to be New 3DS's Virtual Console exclusives.

Thanks guys,

*sigh* I see that some people ignored my earlier post... The GBA games for the ambassador program aren't being played on a Virtual Console emulator. They're being simulated in DS mode and not in 3DS mode. Ever thought why the GBA games can't go into sleep mode or have a Virtual Console menu? Because GBA games can't be played on the Virtual Console emulator since the 3DS doesn't have enough power to fully emulate them.

Here's a lovely article about the whole thing: http://www.vooks.net/why-the-game-boy-advance-isnt-on-the-3ds-virtual-console/

That being said, the New3DS may be powerful enough to emulate GBA games with its higher specs. Ultimately, it's up to Nintendo to decide whether or not to release GBA games for the 3DS/New3DS.

Edit: Or you can wait for a GBA emulator to be made for the Homebrew Launcher.

And you don't seem to know about the unused GBA emu in the VC games.

Thanks, I've always wondered this and now I'm clarified.
