Gateway I must admit, has surprised even me with 9.x support, something I never thought was possible.

Every new feature Nintendo builds into the 3DS is an possibility of introducing a new exploit. Every new game released w/ a saver has the chance to as well. I'm slightly more surprised it took this long and that it wasn't a game by the N themselves that had ssspwn's exploit... Hello Twilight Hack and Smash Stack.

What are the chances that they found an exploit in a demo or something similar on the eshop? I mean Nintendo could pull the game or patch ASAP if they found out.

Edit: Im thinking it could be something that already came with the update like a theme or something.

In a way it kinda already happened, not that Cubic was a demo but they did pull the game from the eShop in Japan.

It also seems Nintendo Australia instructed EB Games Australia to pull Cubic Ninja from the stores. 2 hours before they instructed them I asked for the game at my local store. Believe it or not, they only ordered one copy ever in Victoria. Which doesn't surprise me since the staff there didn't know what the game was... or they were just acting dumb. Most likely a mixture of both.

The card itself is sold in large quantities to resellers at like $50 - you can bet your ass that they're making a healthy profit off of the resellers buying them already.
The $50 -> $100 difference is a small amount of logistics (shipping fees and storage etc), but largely is profits cut off the top by the resellers.

So, why else is SKY3DS like $100? Because they are currently the only cards that functions on v5+ and thus hold a monopoly. Meaning they can basicly ask whatever they want.
Odds are that if they had asked $150 people would still have bought them when faced with no alternatives.
Especially if they can overcome the 10 game limit in a stable fashion.


Gateway remains silent for now, so they pretty much have the field to themselves.

I have a 9.0.0.20U 2DS, if I buy a GW today, it won't come with the newer version, so it won't work in my 2DS, but will I be able to update the GW Cart when the new version arrive and play it?
(In other words, can I update the GW Cart in a 9.0.0.20 2DS? or does the update process need a 4.5 3DS?)

I'm not familiar with the update process of GW, so I thought the update process needed to occur in a console already compatible with the old version of the cart (the same way it happens with some R4 carts for 3ds).

There was a point in time that this might set you back $1200 (back when the US federal minimum wage was around $3). And if you were l33t enough to know what it was capable of you imported one from Serbia or slept w/ a crack addict to get one, price wasn't a question.

Sorry, but $100 for a decent flash cart is still not a bad deal, even today. 10 triple A games at $40 a piece = $400. If you load a Sky3DS w/ ten $40 3DS games, even at $120 you still save a lot of money. DYSWIM?!?

sky3ds is waste of money now that gateway is coming out with 9.x support. Just get that, play backups if you want, and homebrew probably will at least be possible through a cubic ninja rom if gateway hasn't found some other exploit (hopefully this is the case).

Maybe a lot of the people here are just bitter because they went out and bought an extra 3DS with 4.5 just to use Gateway hehe.

That actually depends on just how Sky3DS truly works. Some more intelligent people need to fully dissect it and see how it's functioning. If Sky3DS is truly emulating a cart, then there's good chance Nintendo can't block it, only at best make future games not work with it. Whereas Gateway would be using an exploit, which most likely can be patched. If Sky3DS is using one too, then yes, no point to have a Sky3DS.

Thats economy for you in a nutshell...
Supply and demand.

Even when a supplier has the power to dictate pricing when they have a monopoly - if people aren't willing to pay your price its not gonna go anywhere.
Value is dictated in between, its always a balance between the two.

However, perhaps an even more important thing to realize is, prices for tech overall have gone down. Its cheaper than ever to produce stuff like this in a large scale.
Where in the early days it was primarily manual labour and exotic hardware, virtually everything can get mass-produced now.
So this $100 card probably didn't even cost a quarter of that to produce in the first place.

Honestly? Once GW releases the update, Sky3DS's price will plummet (and if it doesn't, it should). There will be no need to buy one since Gateway is the cheaper (and albeit a higher quality one) alternative.

As for being cheap/greedy .. I don't know if I'm being just as greedy as the Sky Team .. That's the point. We don't know for SURE if it's something they did on porpuse or it's some kind of limitation. They keep mentioning through e-mails that they're working on that specific issue (Right?) but there's no saying it wasn't on porpuse.

I won't detail my reasons to obtain a Gateway, as those are personal and mine alone, but not everything is as crystal clear as everyone thinks it is. Sometimes there's more than meets the eye. Also, it's none of my business, but I think everyone should keep their reasons with them, or else you risk being smitten by the moral knights of eternal goodness and/or, in the worst case scenario, a prompt warning by the GBATemp staff (with good reason to).

My guess is since GW has no buttons, you will put the games inside the SD Card and set UP a list with the names of the ROMs and a order for them to appear.
So GW will show the games one ofter another untill you choose to play one.
Or it will be one game per SD card.
