While it was well known that early Pentium 4 cpu were greatly under performing in the PC enthusiast circles of the time, consumer were left at the mercy of Intel advertisement campaign and were unfortunately misled.

ArsTechnica said:
Even though the CPU launched at 1.4GHz and 1.5GHz, it was decisively outclassed in virtually every area by the Athlon (Thunderbird) 1.2GHz and, in some cases, even by the aging 1GHz P3. Intel's 0.13 micron Tualatin P3 later proved itself perfectly capable of besting the P4 despite a 30 percent clockspeed gap between the two. As a result of this, Tualatin chips, while available in certain systems and laptops, were never widely deployed—they simply competed too well against the original Pentium 4.

In 2002, a class action against Intel and HP was filed alleging that they misled their consumer with manipulated benchmark scores, only to see results 12 years later. In addition to pay the generous amount of 15$ to those who will be patient enough to fill the paperwork, they will also donate $4 million to educational charities.

Eligibility:
All residents of the United States, other than those residing in Illinois, who (i) purchased a new computer equipped with a Pentium 4 processor, (ii) purchased the computer between November 20, 2000 and December 31, 2001, and (iii) purchased the computer for personal, family, or household use;
and
All residents of the United States, other than those residing in Illinois, who (i) purchased a new computer equipped with a first-generation (Willamette) Pentium 4 processor or a Pentium 4 processor at speeds below 2.0 GHz, (ii) purchased the computer between January 1, 2002 and June 30, 2002, and (iii) purchased the computer for personal, family, or household use.

I can already see this being heavily abused.
15 quid back for a CPU you ditched more then 8 years ago.

People... they keep surprising me.
Proof of purchase not needed so... If you live in the US, reclaim your free $15 now, even if you never had a Pentium 4!

I always knew the Pentium 3 was better. Had so many of those P4s, but when I got a 1.6ghz Pentium duo core I almost felt like I got out of the stone age in terms of performance!
Few would argue the P3 was not a monster, however it was a very hot monster. Likewise with dual core you kind of got a whole extra processor core to do what you wanted with so, assuming the OS could handle it, then it was almost inevitable that it would be considerably faster.

My old P4 1.5GHz, RAMBUS based model, was an expensive piece of shit.
I despise the day I stupidly bought and assembled it (mid 2001) and I still enjoy remembering when the piece of shit burnt out.
Because, you know? it was not only a piece of shit regarding performance, you could easily cook a grill on it.
Well, at least it was useful to keep the room warm on the cold days.

lol good thing ain't nobody got time to check every single claim form for legitimacy.

We had a hand-me-down custom build back in 2004-2008, when I updated to a Core 2 Duo lol. I'd make a bogus claim, but I already know someone who end up in prison for a few years for a federal crime, so, I'll pass.

So...what's with Illinois? Did those guys get correct benchmark graphs or something?

I have a P4 here at home. A souvenir from my last job, where it was our job to replace those things (if there was enough budget for new ones, that is...they probably still have employees using them). It's certainly not a fast machine, but since it serves as my "mess around with linux" machine, it does fine.

Was running a 2.8 ghz p4 with an fsb of 533, then used the the 1.6 ghz pentium duo core. The core and core 2 are based on Pentium 3 design. Oh and it was soooo Cooler! B-)

If you don't mind me speaking for everyone when I ask, does anyone legitimately care about this class action suit placed on this processor to the point of feeling distraught about wanting a settlement over it. To me publically announcing you can make a claim about a falsely lead processor from years ago just screams CASH GRAB to everyone wanting to ride this out for free money while the legitimately upset potential customers are a handful at best.

Good a company is taking responsibility but was this the right direction to take with it since ANYONE can claim to be a victim? Just food for thought.

Can I get more if I produce my P4?

The thing was initiated in 2007 so grievances could have been a bit stronger.
However I can not say I care, of course I can not say I have really cared about anything like this and back then I would not have purchased anything computery without knowing what I was getting.
