Hacking (4.x only) CIA CFW Complete Guide

Ok, so I've read through a large portion of this and Gio's thread, but not exactly sure what benefit this brings with it.

If I have a 4.3 3ds with Gateway, does this come with any added benefit other than installing useless .cia files? I mean, honestly, there's not many uses for .cia files at the moment, right?

Please, correct me if I'm wrong. Im seriously curious about all this cfw business, but not entirely sure what it has to offer someone who already has a gateway.

More than possible with the public 7.x keys.

Wouldn't that just add compatability with 7.x.x? Doubt they'd use the same architecture from 7.x.x to 9.x.x

I'm sure if someone can figure out how, it will be done. Besides incorporating the new key, I expect there's patching to be adapted to newer firmware versions as well.

This CFW has the advantage of being able to install .cias directly to the home menu, if you can figure out how to properly convert ROMs to .cia you can install those too (and I've got confirmation from several people it works with a variety of games), some advanced tools that'll make developing homebrew easier, it's free (minus the cost of a DS flashcart) If it can be fixed to be compatible with up to date firmwares, should be a solid competitor to Gateway.

Forgot to mention, once it's been reversed and is completely open source, that'll be a big advantage over Gateway. No bulky obfuscation, no hidden brick code.

Whenever I write my 4.5 NAND @ 0x200, the FAT32 partition shows as having 100MB free out of 2.73GB. This is immediately after formatting with gateway.

Am I correct in reading that I have to have some type of flash cart or another to use this? I just updated my 3ds to 4.5 last week (was a stock Ocarina of Time piece) but don't have a cart of any type.

Great plan. It is my hope to have commented source for arm9, arm11, boot as well as ctrclient and be able to build everything from scratch.

Did you see crtclient on neimods git? It looks like it's an older version that this is based off of. We could probably use it as a starting point and then reverse the added features with IDA+Wireshark PCAP.

yeah you need to install the ROPLoader and it requires a DS flashcart

You need a NDS flashcart or a copy of Bangi-O Sprits (DS save game based hack) to corrupt DS Profile.

On a side note, for those on fw < 4.5, I bought Lego: Legends of Chima from Gamestop for 15 bucks (USD) to get there. Pretty cheap and a decently enough enjoyable game.

You can use the play coin setter on gateway iirc. 3dsguy released a rom of it a while back.

but I dont have gateway though...so I need that I guess?
