Just to confirm I'm updating correctly, I'm on 8.1 emunand which I updated via SSB. I should now launch the "new" launcher with this release, go to format nand option and then system update once I'm certain I've booted into emunand OR do I just go right into system update in my emunand, no need to format?

Just update once you're in Emunand. You don't need to format it again.

Great, got it, now to figure out how to update this thing.

I'm pretty tech savvy but I'm super nervous about performing the update properly without screwing something up. Is it too much to ask the Gateway team to include an updated setup guide (the one included is dated March).

If anyone has a detailed step-by-step guide it would be greatly appreciated.
I'm actually on Omega 2.2, emunand 5.xx.

Excuse me. Does this mean that Gateway card will now work on any 2DS/3DS with official firmware of 9.0 (or whatever)? I bought a 2DS and plan to buy Gateway card until I learned you can only use Gateway for 3DS with firmware 4 or 4.5 only. Please clarify. I really appreciate.

It is referring to EmuNAND which is a copy of your firmware loaded from the SD card so you can have updated features. You still need a base firmware of 4.1-4.5 on your 3DS.

I posted a quick guide in another thread about updating EmuNAND. It's how I've been doing it and I haven't had an issue with accidently updating my regular firmware since Emunand first came out:

There are ways to make sure you are not accidently updating SYSnand:

1. Fill your sysnand wifi slots with garbage (this is because any changes in wifi on emunand will be copied to sysnand if it's blank)
2. Change the main menus so they look different between sysnand and emunand. The way I did this was I zoomed in all the icons and made 4 folders that spell out REAL on the sysnand.
3. Once you are ready, go into emunand and into system settings and then do NOT under any circumstances leave settings or it will throw you back into sysnand. Your version number should have GW3D before the number.
4. Make sure wifi is on and connected to the internet. Go directly to "Other Settings" and hit right 3 times and do "System Update".

5. It should update and then kick you back to sysnand. Just go back to emunand and check to make sure it updated correctly.

To update the Gateway firmware, just copy the new launcher.dat onto your maind 3DS SD card and overwrite the old one. It should be located in the zip you download under GW_OMEGA_2.4_BETA\GW_OMEGA_2.4_BETA. Note you do NOT need to redo the DS mode (blue card) exploit every time you update Gateway firmware.

trying to download gw omega from MEGA, but stupid chrome keep blocking the download thinking its malware software.
deceptive-software-warning.jpg

(something like this, pic for reference)

nintendo is paying google?? :tinfoilhat:

ps: fixed it turning off "Enable phishing and malware protection"

FYI I had this problem with a download the other day. you probably want to keep that setting on, Google is good a blocking bad stuff. But when there is a file that you want that gets flagged go to your downloads ([ctr][j]) and click Recover malicious file. This will put it in your downloads folder.

I've read in a Spanish forum that people are having problems downloading the free themes. I can´t try it because in America we don´t have free themes to download

On my JPN one that I just updated I was able to download the free ones no problem.

Yeah I've noticed this too, maybe a faster SD card can help?

They mention on their site to try a faster SD....I was using the 4GB class 4 that came with the 3DS and switched to a 16gb class6 and it did improve the emunand launch time slightly. Remember class ratings are the write speed and read speeds will vary greatly on memory cards but is generally faster than the write (not always as some class 10 cards I have read/write about the same speed). I have some class4 and even 2 cards that read over 20mbit per second and write at 4-5mbit/sec. While I have seen class10 then write at 12mbit/sec but only read at 16mbit/sec.

I would test some cards if you have them and try to find one that provides the best blend of read/write performance.

Did someone already tried the emunand update with a japanese system? As it seems japanese ones are already at 9.1.0.20 (http://www.nintendo.co.jp/netinfo/3ds/JPN/ja.html) and it won't probably still be able to access eshop if emunand only support 9.0.0.20).

I might contact Gateway to ask, just to be sure.

do we still need the gate white cart to update the firmware?

Just change the "Launcher.dat" file on your SD card. Then either just update actual emunand 8.x, or format it and then update it (both should be okay).

Edit :
On my JPN one that I just updated I was able to download the free ones no problem.

So which firmware do you have on emunand on your japanese 3DS now? 9.0.0.20 or 9.1.0.20 ?

That seems a bit disturbing...

Yes, I don't know why my SYSNand was affected - it's like it was formatted or something. As for the 3D light...who knows. Still, other than that the device works fine, gateway and EMUNand work fine. I'm not complaining - you kinda lose the right to when you make the decisions to use GW. Hey as long as games work, why be bothered?

What is the region of your 3DS? Which format? Classic? XL? (LL in japan)

Japanese firmware is 9.1.0.20, so that may be the problem?

Did you use the "Format Emunand" function? If yes, the SD card is formatted and if I'm right, preinstalled games are stocked on the SD card so that may be the problem.

About the 3D light, I don't know. I just know XL (LL in japan) 3D light is off when it's disabled, contrary to regular 3DS where the 3D light is on even when the slider is off.

Parental control can also block the 3D, so you might want to check that.

I also saw a report of someone that said his system nand got updated to 9.0 when he did the online update, but he was using the 2.2 launcher version and so, that might be why he got this bug (link here : http://www.maxconsole.com/maxcon_fo...d-9-0-0-20U-will-put-you-on-OFFICIAL-FIRMWARE), because people who updated to 9.x with 2.3b launcher didn't got their system nand updated, just got a bricked emunand.

yea but that doesnt help me update, lol.. im not worried about the internet anyways since i havent even accepted the terms of service yet.

So basically, you don't need emunand 9.x. The only interesting feature is the access to eshop (for games that require an update to play online). If you don't use internet connection with your 3DS, 8.1 (updated offline with Smash Bros) is fine.

The new emuNand (9.0-20) is a little bit laggy here
It's takes more time to load icons

Same on real 9.x firmware. The icons appears a few seconds after the icon of the cart game.

why do I read so much about formating? formating should only be an option, if you encounter any issues updating the emunand, then you might have to create a new one, but formating it right from the get go as a mandatory step is nonsense
I still use the same emunand, that I once created in december 2013, I updated it from 4.5 to 6.3 to 7.0 to 7.1 to 8.1 to 9.0 without ever having to recreate it
so unless you encounter an ISSUE updating, reformating it is NOT a mandatory step

Yeah, formatting is only useful if you got the black screen (if you updated to 9.x with 2.3b launcher), if not, it's not required. I suppose the gateway installer wipe the emunand partition when it update anyway.

Edit : I confirm japanese 3DS are updated to "9.1.0.20-J" (instead of "9.0.20-U/E" for american/european 3DS) and that it's still working fine on the emunand.

And so, I also confirm that the japanese 3DS can access the eshop, as emunand is updated to the last version.
