According to what we know about the 3DS so far, does it seem feasible that a permanent custom firmware solution could ever be possible on the system? I'm talking something similar to the PSP and 'permanent' could mean multiple things I suppose.

Or does it look like Emunand is going to be about as good as it gets? Thoughts?

Obviously I don't see anything happening anytime soon, but I would be surprised if the 3DS never received a permanent, software-based hack solution.
It might not be as easily broken as the Wii, but considering appalling the gaps in the Wii U's security, I can't imagine the 3DS is much more secure.

It might not for all I know. It's not always dependent on security, but interest too, so I wonder...

Ok this shit needs to stop. We need a sticked CFW/DevMenu/.CIA File thread to stop the forum from being flooded everyday with questions similar to this.

1. Chill out.
2. Why not create the thread yourself and request it be stickied?
3. Do you really think that'll stop these kinds of threads? At most it'll give people with knowledge of the thread a URL to link the OP to, but that's not really too much better than the way things are now.

Not with current methods. You'd need a flaw in the boot process to break the chain of trust.

There might be one, there might be not, in which case the only way to install a "permanent" custom firmware would be a hardware mod.
Unless we somehow get our hands on the private key(s) used in said chain of trust.
