Hey guys,

So, I have a 2DS I haven't turned on for months. Saw the release of MH4 is coming out in Jap in a few hours. I've not touched Homebrew or CustomFirmware since the Twilight Princess modification on the Wii.

My question is, I'm seeing a lot of new terminology mixed in with people discussing R4 cards (I've used before).

One of which is gateway which I can only assume is a custom firmware (I can't use if I updated my 2DS?)

Thanks for being patient, if I've made a stupid mistake or you feel I've been inadequate with my posting etc please refrain from telling me to search as I've tried ;)

edit:

  • Gateway 3DS
  • R4i 3DS Gold DELUXE
  • 3DS Link
I found these, I know that the R4 card is a piece of hardware which I put a MICROSD card in. Will this allow to me to play Region locked games outside of my region? or do I need to softmod my 2DS?
Thanks

Thanks for searching! This post actually belongs in Noob Paradise, but so many people post these, so meh.

Gateway 3ds and clones (other 3ds flashcards) are only compatible in 4.X firmwares because the MSET exploit was patched in 5.0. No 2ds has a low enough firmware, thus no gateway on 2ds. Sorry!

That's a pretty good idea, I wonder if there is a UK Based shop locally I can do that at.

Thanks
well pretty much any game shop does trade ins, but just so your aware the "new" 3ds isnt released in the UK till next year, also just to make sure you understand the new 3ds also will not work with any 3DS rom flashcards (unless any miracles happen in the meantime :P )

if you really wanted to use 3ds flashcards you would be looking for a 3ds or 3ds XL on 4.x

That's good to hear, think I'd get odd looks if I went in and asked to see what firmware it is? :P

CeX gives store credit of £61 (black edition boxed) so you're not really making much of a deal trading/selling it.

The Super 3DS if imported from Australia would be a great deal since it costs around £130-150 (either find a website that ships to UK or use a reliable middleman).

yeah tbh i wouldn't ever really suggest doing trade ins and stuff you might as well just stick it on gumtree and get more from it rather than them taking a hefty slice....actually it isn't *too* bad, average selling price of a 2ds on ebay is about 70-80, so if you sold it on ebay, after postageand fee's etc, you would probably end up with about 60ish, try sticking it on gumtree for like 70-75, for the best return on it

If you trade it in at gamestop along with a DS game they would 64 credits cause when I went to gamestop I traded the 2DS & the dragon quest DS game whatever you do don't trade it for cash cause they will only give you $40 for the 2DS

only problem is that ties him to spending the money in the shop he trades it in at(and if he is specifically looking for a 4.x console....that might be a bit awkward), i would really just suggest finding a local selling site like gumtree, or there is facebook pages where you can sell stuff locally....no shops taking a cut (but you generally sell it a bit lower than shops charge)

Yeah I would wait for the new 3ds and buy it from australia when its released, australia is still PAL region so all UK based games will work fine without any tinkering. If you want to go down the piracy route theres a few on ebay for around the £120 mark, or you could just buy one from a retailer and look for the date on the box, theres a guide on this site on what specifically to look for

I don't think it'll be difficult in finding a 4.x console at gamestop but I suppose your right :)
