Hardware New Faster Lighter 3DS Console Announced

I love how people bitch about how PS4 doesn't have many good games and that among them were remasters so there's no reason to buy one yet... and then people turn around and say, after only one port was announced, that Nintendo is cock-blocking current 3DS users. One port is not a reason to buy a new 3DS. The new model won't even be available in the West until next year. Y'all should really chill the fuck out.

Most people's worries are about more future exclusive titles, xenoblade would be merely setting a trend here, not be the single reason for tearing your hair out screaming.

You see, if you develop a system with one game that cannot be directly ported to the previous revision, it's likely that more games will follow as I doubt they dedicated R&D on new specs, manufacturing a new revision for one wii game port.

Edit: one wii game port that didn't even break the one million sales worldwide, even. I'm pretty certain something like Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 will be ported if things go well for them.

I'm not whining, so much as voicing my general dislike for such "revisions". The 3DS is barely through what can be considered half of the usual console cycle, and we're already getting a "new" console. It's been what, 3 years since it reached NA? In comparison, the original DS came out in 2004, and ended up having a 9 year lifespan.

I'm incredibly hesitant to buy a new product if it's only going to last for so long. When I buy something, I want a sense of security knowing that the product will stay as the top end product for X amount of time, so that said product receives the full attention from the company and any developers. Since the New 3DS has exclusive titles, I am concerned that the current 3DS will not receive as much attention, miss out on "core" AAA titles, and so on. Now, if Nintendo instead went the DSi route like with Pokemon Black/White (where they ran on both systems with a few extra perks if you used a DSi), I'd have zero complaints. Making the games entirely exclusive, however, deeply concerns me.

People bought a new console released in spring of 2011, and now about 3 years later we learn that a new "revision" will receive exclusive AAA content. And we don't care about Xenoblade, one of the most overrated games of the last generation. We care about this becoming a trend and forcing us to upgrade after only 3 years.

What is your problem with our reaction? Do you own Nintendo's shares or something?

I hope Nintendo ignores naysayers and releases all games as at least "New 3DS Enhanced" from now on to make the upgrade sensible. I'd also like to see exclusive content - the DSi was a massive wasted opportunity and I hope they will not repeat past mistakes, although knowing Nintendo they will probably cater to the existing install base, making the upgrade pointless.

However it can also have improved performances if they cater games for both systems, i.e 60FPS on the New 3DS, while the old one holds on 30FPS.

Nintendo stated during the stream that part of the reason they implemented a stronger CPU was for increasing the smoothness of the firmware with regards to miiverse and internet capabilities. I doubt they're seriously thinking of taking advantage of the CPU increase for many AAA games for a while. I'd rather play XC on Wii anyway because it is at a higher resolution.

So far these improvements don't really warrant an upgrade for existing 3DS owners, IMO.... but if people want to play XC on the go then more power to them. About $100 for a trade in + $40 for a new 3DS game sounds ridiculously steep just to play a port at a lower resolution.

Pretty much. Exclusives will encourage people to upgrade and Enhanced games will make the deal even sweeter.

Looking down on obsolete systems while being eager to buy a new revision of a 3DS has a good deal of irony to it as well.

The DSi wasn't a complete upgrade, at least in my opinion. The DSi's exclusive "games" were basically low budget, digital only, and not even remotely comparable to full blown games. They were basically mini-games of sorts. Saying the DSi was a replacement would be a valid statement if the DSi had exclusive access to Mario Kart DS or Pokemon Black/White, for example.

Regardless, this is purely my opinion.

Yeah sure they'll do that and lose the initial 40 Million + install base.

This is just a hardware revision. They have to keep producing models, and since the 3DS is cheap enough to manufacture, they make a revision. Happens with everything. From the looks of it there isn't anything too good offered by it over the standard models.
