So older 3DS systems will be obsolete?

Guess all those Fat and Slim PS3 should be steamrolled in the name of Justice huh?

There will always be newer Hardware revisions and Updates for ANY type of Electronics Computers,Smart phones,Game consoles etc........people should Boycott Apple,Samsung,HTC and the list goes on

A hardware revision is just that: A REVISION. The older hardware can still play new content.

The "New 3DS" will be a new console, the only difference this time is that it won't actually be "next-gen", it will be a slightly beefier 3DS with exclusive AAA games...

They just announced 1 "exclusive " game and everyone thinks their current 3DS is obsolete.....I don't see the Logic there

U wanna play XC? Play it on the Wii like a normal person.....
Again, the Wii isn't portable.. That's why it's a sad thing not being able to play on the old 3DS

It's one thing when the new revisions make the device smaller or prettier. It's another thing when the revision locks out the original userbase.

For example, the DS Phat and the DS Lite. You could keep your Phat if you didn't want to upgrade, and you weren't "punished" for doing so. On that note, the DS to DSi is not comparable to this situation. The DSi did in fact have a couple of "exclusive" games, but they were digital only, small budget only, and were basically mini-games or indie tier, not "AAA" titles.

However, from what we understand, the New 3DS will be featuring top end games that are completely exclusive to it. This, in a sense, makes it a brand new console, and not a 3DS in any way but name. Now, this statement will be completely incorrect if it turns out that the "exclusive" New 3DS titles are only ports like Xenoblade. However, if Nintendo starts pumping out AAA titles like Mario, Zelda, or Metroid and make them exclusives, you're going to have a pretty angry fanbase.

Also, on the note of smartphones, your comparison is flawed. New versions of Android devices like Samsung and HTC phones do not "lock out" older devices. I cannot speak for Apple, as I have never used an iPhone before, but my ancient Nexus One I keep in my sock drawer can still run brand new Android apps.

Again its a "Port" of a Wii game......that's not locking out the User base I think

But like u say if they start developing AAA exclusives like Mario,Zelda and the like then yes I Will Shit in a Box and Shipp that overnight the Reggie :tpi:

Smartphones are much more capable than the 3DS. That doesn't really apply here. Besides, look at how the Metal Gear Solid remake ran on the 3DS.

1) I am a software engineer, i know about hardware. My point was that PS3 content is able to port to smartphones. My Archos Gamepad 2 with a mere 20gflops gpu can play XCOM at 800p. A P-S-3 port, granted with toned down graphics... Of course i didn't compare the 3ds with current smartphones which are far more powerful. Still, the 3DS is not that much weaker than the original Wii...

2) Metal Gear Solid was a crap port, not enough effort went into it and it shows. There are far more demanding games on the 3DS with stellar frame rates...

What interests me is the usage the second stick will be receiving. It gives me a LOT of hope Sakurai will announce another Kid Icarus Game, or a future release of a Splatoon on 3DS, and other really cool ideas that could happen later on.

The difference here is that, when it comes to handheld game consoles, you generally expect them to be long lasting. They aren't smartphones. You don't simply buy a new revision with new hardware after a couple of years. That is definitely not how the dedicated handheld game consoles work. As well, with your Fat and Slim PS3 examples, the hardware doesn't really change from revision to revision in that one model has better tech than another (minus the Fat to Slim that had some requirements to cut the price down in a significant fashion). A better example would have been comparing the 360 to the 360 Elite or whatever the model with a built in wifi adapter and less shitty melting parts included is called.

Regardless, for this particular example, it isn't a huge deal that there is a new really, really small second stick. It doesn't matter that the system is stronger. What matters is that Nintendo is taking advantage of the extra strength to release exclusive games on the system, not unlike the DSi and DSiware, just with the exception here being that there is a good chance that Nintendo won't just put poop games on it as they did with the DSi.

This is just the kind of bullshit one can expect out of Nintendo though. They're trying to do two things at this point:
1) Make up for how shitty the Wii U is doing. Even if it means shamelessly releasing more 3DS revisions, they'll do what they feel they have to.
2) They're trying to replicate the DS, they're most successful handheld to date. They probably figure, the DS sold really well with lots of revisions, so they should do the same thing yet again!

I love how people bitch about how PS4 doesn't have many good games and that among them were remasters so there's no reason to buy one yet... and then people turn around and say, after only one port was announced, that Nintendo is cock-blocking current 3DS users. One port is not a reason to buy a new 3DS. The new model won't even be available in the West until next year. Y'all should really chill the fuck out.

Well they are testing the waters and first seeing how many people will buy the new model. Of course, they aren't going to develop a huge exclusive brand new game first, it makes sense for the first title to be a console port, they could potentially lose a shitload of money if this turns out to receive the same DSi treatment by developers and consumers in general.

Still, it's their intention that counts: they obviously hope to see big exclusive titles on this revision, and they themselves stated this by makig xenoblade exclusive to it and giving it the first push in that direction.

You can be sure that if enough pieces are sold, nintendo will be happy to move over to new3DS exclusive development. They won't stop and think about the previous owners. If they did, they wouldn't have developed a slightly more powerful new revision with exclusive content to begin with.

Well I seriously hope all 3DS games going forward won't be exclusive to "new 3DS" as that would be unforgivable

But as someone who has yet to jump on the Bandwagon this is just more Options for those of us still wanting to join the Masses

Have you checked that those claims were made by the same people?

I just bough an XL. I still have my original 3DS. Damn it Nintendo.
Seriously hope that newer games don't take the "only works on the new 3ds" approach. If they do, fuck Nintendo. Way to alienate the rest of us who don't upgrade.

I hope Nintendo ignores naysayers and releases all games as at least "New 3DS Enhanced" from now on to make the upgrade sensible. I'd also like to see exclusive content - the DSi was a massive wasted opportunity and I hope they will not repeat past mistakes, although knowing Nintendo they will probably cater to the existing install base, making the upgrade pointless.
