Can an american 3DS playing a japanese game via Gateway play local wireless with another 3ds using the same thing?

also, can an american 3ds playing a japanese game via Gateway play local wireless with a japanese 3ds playing the same game?

are there complications? if so, what are they? thanks.

Yes yes and yes! As far as I believe (my own testing) this is completely possible I have played Kirby triple deluxe and pokemon via gateway local multiplayer with another 3ds on version 8.1

Thank you for the reply. I ended up purchasing SSF4 3D on the japanese eshop because it was cheap. I tested playing it on the japanese 3ds against an american 3ds with the japanese game rom and it worked. I also tested the same thing but with the american 3ds with playing the american rom of the game and it worked as well.

All of me and my brothers worries for smash next month are gone :D

it depends on the game, not every game works wireless across regions.
not every game supports wireless when it is booted out of region (as in, when the eur game is run on a usa 3ds)

some games have run fine for me, for example nsmb2, pokemon, but mario kart did not work.
these are the only games i have tried to use multiplayer in.

be careful when you give advice, it would not have been nice if he wasted his money and the game ended up not being compatible!

Does local wireless multiplayer require the .3dz format or can I just use a standard scene release .3ds rom?
